Remembering the day in March 1978 when I visited The Arizona Memorial. A truly somber experience.

Flying our Pearl Harbor flag. We were there in May of 2013. We were the first group to go out at 8 AM, so I was killing time in the gift shop. I picked up a flag and it had a certificate that documented that it had flown over the Arizona on 12/7/2012. I thought how cool. My dad had 5 brothers, and 5 of the 6 boys served in WWII. The oldest, Jack, was my dad’s best bud. He was also a B-25 pilot. KIA in 1944, so I bought the flag in his honor.
So, I’m walking around with it and the clerk said if you take it out with you, the ranger will help you fly it over the Arizona! Wow I thought. So we get out to the site, and the wife is videoing me raising the flag. I didn’t really notice but afterwards watching the video, almost everyone there stopped, turned and watched as I raised it. It was very moving. After a few minutes I lower it and 3 guys, all looked ex-military, came over and asked to help fold the flag.
So I’m talking with the Ranger and said we are going to the Missouri tomorrow. She said take it with you and they will let you fly it there ! Holy gobsmacked ! We flew it there the next day. This flag is one of my most prized possessions.
We fly it every 12/7, when it all started, and every 9/2, when it all ended.
