I think I am going to mod this Brinkmann...as I mentioned, it was designed to be an electric smoker, so the bottom looks like this, and there's supposed to be an element that sits in the bottom of the pan, like this battery charger is here:
There's an inner pan to the whole thing that sits in the base...
I plan to drill holes every few inches all the way around both parts...and maybe a few in the bottom of the inner pan...I had to Jimmy rig a couple old grates to hold the coal bed a couple of inches off the bottom of the inner pan
And it sits in there like so:
Kinda hoping I can eliminate this altogether if I drill around the sides and some out of the bottom.
This smoker has a water "pan" more like a bowl, that has been long used and it doesn't hold water anymore, so I will put dirt in it, and then sink a different pan into the soil...seems to work alright....Jimmy Riggs was happy with it, anyway
...

Then that whole mess goes inside

Then you stack everything on the base (where I want to drill holes) slap the lid on and smoke away.
Problem is, I haven't come up with a vent system yet. I need to be able to cut the airflow back, or open it up..not quite sure how I will accomplish this yet...
