UNGD: Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1960 Les Paul "Norm Burst"

Talk to me about this nylon saddle thing. What does it do to the tone?

If you can see the crack in the first joint of my pinky you will know why I ask. I have never drawn blood, but I live with an eternally messed up finger due to the lovely stock metal saddles I can't keep my hand away from.

Don't know much about it, I think, as popular as Joe is, a Google search should tell you all.

I think he uses the nylon saddles on the treble strings e, b, g. Believe he does it for tone reasons.

Look into it, I've just happened to notice most of his guitars use this system.

There's a video that I saw where he talks about them (did a quick search and couldn't find it again, but it was from when his signature goldtop came out). Seems like he uses them to "mellow" the unwound strings a bit so that the tone is less shrill at the ridiculous volume levels he plays at. Also, let's not forget that those original guitars had nylon nuts too.

I see no mention in the adds about Nylon Saddles. I guess I'll know for sure tomorrow, but I don't think it has them...

Kluson makes one that's on $26.00 and I've seen the saddles alone for sale as well.

$32 on Amazon. Saddles are $8 on Philadelphia Luthier Supply.

I really like it too. The only thing I wish they would have done on this guitar is put Gibson Pickups in it. While I know the Epiphone pickups have improved are
are very good now I'd pay a little more for a factory set up with Gibson Pickups. I know I can swap them out, but that affects the originality and value of the
guitar. I know it's an Epiphone, but I also know that these Joe Bonamassa outfits hold and increase in value.
You can put the originals back undetected with your soldering skills.

Saweet,
Hard to tell from pics, does it also have the nylon saddles Joe seems to prefer? Thin skin as well with the new Epi finish? New headstock does that Paulie good, just great looking.
Here's hoping it plays as great as it looks.
Really nice example of a 1960 LP, that's a lot of guitar for not much coinage.

You mean this? I'm going to swap three of these saddles onto the G, B and E strings tonight on my Classic and see what happens. Maybe I can raise the pickup pole screws back up with these and save my finger.

That would be a good thing, you know seein how you play guitar and all.

One of my life long friends dropped a transmission on his left hand, lost 2 joint on his ring finger, the rest came back after years. But he's like you, gives it Hell, never uses it as an excuse.

Cool report back with your findings.

Hell, if the wine flows well I may just have to make a before and after video.
