But Les didn’t design his guitar. It really cool is that Les Paul actually played guitar. Something that other guy that has his name on a guitar did not do.
But Les didn’t design his guitar.
Didn’t actually say he did. Just that he played the guitar with his name on the head stock and the other guy didn’t even play guitar. Just found that funny. But Les didn’t design his guitar.
He pitched the “idea” of a solid body electric with his guitar “the log.” It was a solid center block and neck with pickups and the sawn up parts of an Epiphone arch top to make it look like a guitar. The ES models are more like his design.I thought Les Designed it and kept pitching it to Gibson to be developed. Hmm.
Here's a nice photo of Les with "The Log."

The only real input he had after was to change the finish from a prototyoe burst to gold top to signify "quality" as the LP was more expensive than the Fenders but as Les said (paraphrasing) "We are selling an upscale guitar, they are selling an ironing board" meaning a tele!!He pitched the “idea” of a solid body electric with his guitar “the log.” It was a solid center block and neck with pickups and the sawn up parts of an Epiphone arch top to make it look like a guitar. What gets me is, how many players who have signature model Les Pauls when the guitar is already a signature model.
I find this funny considering the original moniker of " the Log"The only real input he had after was to change the finish from a prototyoe burst to gold top to signify "quality" as the LP was more expensive than the Fenders but as Les said (paraphrasing) "We are selling an upscale guitar, they are selling an ironing board" meaning a tele!!![]()
The first "on board effects" system.
But it was his idea to put the controls and functions into the guitar...he was constantly modifying and tweaking, trying new concepts. But Les didn’t design his guitar.
