Ultimate Mic Drop moment--- see inside.

But Les didn’t design his guitar.
Didn’t actually say he did. Just that he played the guitar with his name on the head stock and the other guy didn’t even play guitar. Just found that funny.

Edit: been thinking on this. Ironic would have been a better word to use. On one hand you’ve got a musician that got a guitar named after him. On the other an engineer that never played guitar.

Then you have guys like Paul Reed Smith and Bob Taylor that are musicians, that designed and built guitars and put their names on the headstock.

I thought Les Designed it and kept pitching it to Gibson to be developed. Hmm.
He pitched the “idea” of a solid body electric with his guitar “the log.” It was a solid center block and neck with pickups and the sawn up parts of an Epiphone arch top to make it look like a guitar. The ES models are more like his design.

What gets me is, how many players who have signature model Les Pauls when the guitar is already a signature model.

Here's a nice photo of Les with "The Log."

The only real input he had after was to change the finish from a prototyoe burst to gold top to signify "quality" as the LP was more expensive than the Fenders but as Les said (paraphrasing) "We are selling an upscale guitar, they are selling an ironing board" meaning a tele!! :D

I find this funny considering the original moniker of " the Log"

As I mentioned, the first solid body fretted guitar built by Bill Bigsby...for Merle Travis,
and the purpose was sustain.
This is the guitar that Fender and Gibson copied the ideas from.
A "LP" body, with a "Fender" neck / head stock.

However, the idea of extending the frets over the body comes from: Stratovari. Can't leave that out either.
