Meet Hunter, he's a local kid, a guitar phenom I'm told, and you can probably guess his personal guitar hero, just by his guitar choice. That's his dad on the right. Hunter got a W-H custom tooled strap for Christmas, see that a number of pages back. Now, it's dads turn.
Mom contacted me last week, told me pop is a forest fire fighter, has a nice Takamine acoustic, and needs a strap. She had a great idea of trying to create a forest fire type scene for his strap.
So, over the weekend we discussed and came up with something like this... Jacknife is the surname, rather large area family, well-known for business pursuits as well. Anyway, she liked the idea, and that's the goal here ,something along these lines. Never turns out exactly like the pitch mockup but it gives the general idea.
From the last time I learned if I'm going to do a burst type effect, it's better to try to get the meat of the burst FIRST before tooling, so that's what I did here again. At least with the black edges. I'm learning some tricks in my old age. Added a fallen tree just to make the front different than the scene on the back
After a whole bunch of tappedy-tap, I punched in the name with letter stamps. This is a stage where I gotta be careful with the spelling, or getting letters the right way up. I've caught myself several times having it wrong before committing.
Once all the lettering was done, I completed the dye burst with red, and more yellow to get orangy red, blending everything together with some real elbow grease. Looking pretty hot. If you hold your hands over it for too long, it's so intense you can actually feel it! LOL!
I'm letting this dry and will oil it before bed, buff it out then complete the black dye tomorrow painting it in with a brush.
It's a fair bit darker, than the pitch from the computer... more dramatic I think, and better for that Black-amine! To be continued...
