Tuning issues, Check your NUTS. Good Nut work video

Well 1/2 string above the slot would reduce friction for 1 thing...but I don't think you would see that on most guitars.
Unless your name was Robert Herndon. Our friend Robert could wear out a plectrum like no other, frets stood no chance, and forget about strings and nuts.
I think he must have put 150% effort into every practice, every gig and recording session with his guitars.

Referencing the vid…. The idea being that a proper slot doesn’t touch the the string on the sides. Just the bottom. A hair’s breadth is clearance is as good as a mile.

I’ll admit I like the tops of my strings above the nut. It’s a good look.

An old hack I learned years ago from hearing about it in passing from an older guitarist? Take a graphite pencil and start running it across the slots if you had a traditional nut. You basically are creating a poor man's graphite nut and creating lubrication for your strings, thus increasing tuning stability

Normally i dont use nothin cause my guitar is a wrap around tailpiece with locking tuners but i put this here Hipshot D tuner gizmo on here. Works pretty good if you get the new string stretched out and lube the nut. Its still gets a few cents off a bit but not bad.Use the fine tuner with your Ear.Screenshot_20241224_065301_Gallery.jpg
