Tube vs Solid State

No Mitch, no cold here, but I have a hearing problem.

History Of Orange Amps

I have to say -- the TUBE amps are WAY more finicky -- require more care and maintenance and $$$$$$

I can beat the living poop outta a SS amp and -- it works--
the current Peavey Bandit came here in 3 pieces-- no cabinet -- works great
found a Peavey RAGE 15 in a trash pile in pieces-- put it back together -- worked great--
Im guessing the little Orange Micro Terrors can be thrown down a flight of stairs and still work---try that with a DUMBLE!!!! --- not--

for $-durability -- and lack of required Mtc. Im gonna say solid state wins--

and dont really sound like shite either
I mean this guy (and MANY OTHERS) love them

Last maintained over ten years ago. 50 year old Mullard tubes, and gets ridden hard and put away wet. There are a lot gigs on this amp. Sounds wicked pissah!

and --- so----- have you thrown it down a flight of stairs?????????

I didnt think so ......it wouldnt survive I assure you -- not and function straight away---
the Peavey Bandit 112 ------ would -- and even if it didnt-- I could buy 5 more for what the tubes in the lovely Marshall cost --
throw 2 more down the stairs -- set fire to another daisy chain the last 2 and STILL PLAY THE GIG ;)

LOOK I own SS -- hybrid and ALL TUBE amps -- and much like the hairy wanker in post 74 -- I cant hear ANY difference OTHER than -- thats a different amp-- but tube vs SS vs hybrid -- its not that big a diff..... I tried it this evening

Mesa -- all tube-- USA made
Orange Micro Terror-- hybrid--Chinese
Marshall Lead 15 - SS- Vietnamese
Peavey Bandit 112-- SS-- USA made

Same SG guitar-- same cord-- same pick --same poop power chords by an old stinker that looks like me----
HONESTLY -- NOT a HUGE DIFFERENCE.....certainly NOT the 89.00 for a Micro Terror VS the 500.00 for a Mesa difference---

I mean thats OVER 5 TIMES more $$$ and Im sorry the TONE is not FIVE TIMES AS GOOD ---- TO MY EARS----different -- YES-- but thats like saying milk chocolate should be 5 times as much $ as dark chocolate--

When I bought it, it looked like it was thrown off of the back of a truck. Worked fine, and the chassis is still a bit warped. Other than a better looking box, I haven't spent a penny on it in the twenty years I've owned it. Even the 50 year old tubes were a gift from a friend.

ANd to be even MORE honest -- as the Hairy Wanker said--
it is easier -- to get a consistent tone with SS
I turn the Marshall on it SOUNDS the same -- every time -- period--
same with the Peavey
the Mesa is lovely and I love its tone--but its finicky -- some days it sounds better-- it sounds BETTER after its been on for 30 minutes than RIGHT when you turn it on -- if I want to do a "quick noodle" I dont chose it --

tube amps are like owning old British cars
SS amps are like modern Toyotas--

both start -- both GO --
but -- if you are driving from South Fl. to Northern Ca. ----- and MUST get there in 5 days..................and can pick either car ---- which one ya gonna pick?????????

but WOULD YOU THROW IT DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS?

That Roland is one of the worst sounding amps ever made. I saw Lonnie Mack live using two of those, and they made that '58 Flying V of his sound like total garbage.
