TicketMaster

It's a bit crazy. I've used them twice lately and the checkout price is so much higher than the expected price based on seating costs. Bought 2 tickets to Steve Miller last night at Tennessee. $39.95 a seat. Checkout price $120! The supercross tix I bought not long ago was worse.

My main Tech has to have 2 phones with 2 dif providers cause of constant dispatch. There is glitches & they are often

how they aren't declared a Monopoly absolutely floors me. Extortion to the extreme those guys are.

From the article in the OP:

"Ticketmaster is also facing a Senate hearing and an antitrust investigation for abuse of power helmed by the Justice Department (the investigation also targets Live Nation Entertainment—the company formed after Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010)."

We'll see what comes of it.

I refuse to use them. They are original pirates.
When I was buying tickets back in the 80s and 90s, my experience with them was positive. At that time didn’t feel ticket prices were horrible and handling charges were reasonable. Nothing like today. And I was always able to get tickets for any concert we wanted to go to. Even the ones that sold out in 10-15 minutes.

The one concert that really stands out was opening night for a new venue in Moline Illinois. They’d managed to book Neil Diamond for the first concert ever in the newly constructed venue. 12000 seats give or take a few. People standing in line at the ticket booth for 24 hours waiting to buy tickets. The moment they went on sale, started speed dialing Ticketmaster. When the local number was busy I had the number for Cedar Rapids. It was busy. Went to Des Moines…. Busy. Council Bluff. Got in. Got 4 tickets purchased. Went back to working since I was actually on the clock. Elapsed time. Less than 10 minutes. And by the time I’d finished my transaction, it was a sold out show. Best part of that show besides not standing in a line all night…….. We were about 10-12 rows back from the stage.

95% of the live music I see is in small venues featuring up and coming bands. So, a cover charge at the door.

The very few national touring acts I would even want to see in an arena setting (Tool, for example) would likely be forced to use Ticketmaster due to contracts with the venues, which would definitely give me pause before I decided to purchase the tickets. I've seen too many concerts in my life to allow myself to be extorted by a company that seems to operate as a crime syndicate. Just not worth it.

I like the small intimate theaters. Saw ELP sometime in the 90s in a tiny 2600 seat auditorium in Davenport IA. It was awesome.

I don't enjoy seeing bands in sports arenas at all. It has never been a good experience but unfortunately a lot of bands only play in the places.

My favorite venues are 1500-2000 seat theaters, that are stull small enough to feel fairly intimate and generally have good acoustics.

We have been spoiled the last 3 years. Each summer there are concerts each Friday and Saturday night with really good tribute bands. Place seats maybe 250. $20 for reserved table seating.

P.S. - Robert has played here.
