When I was buying tickets back in the 80s and 90s, my experience with them was positive. At that time didn’t feel ticket prices were horrible and handling charges were reasonable. Nothing like today. And I was always able to get tickets for any concert we wanted to go to. Even the ones that sold out in 10-15 minutes.I refuse to use them. They are original pirates.
From the article in the OP:
"Ticketmaster is also facing a Senate hearing and an antitrust investigation for abuse of power helmed by the Justice Department (the investigation also targets Live Nation Entertainment—the company formed after Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010)."
We'll see what comes of it.
I like the small intimate theaters. Saw ELP sometime in the 90s in a tiny 2600 seat auditorium in Davenport IA. It was awesome.95% of the live music I see is in small venues featuring up and coming bands. So, a cover charge at the door.
The very few national touring acts I would even want to see in an arena setting (Tool, for example) would likely be forced to use Ticketmaster due to contracts with the venues, which would definitely give me pause before I decided to purchase the tickets. I've seen too many concerts in my life to allow myself to be extorted by a company that seems to operate as a crime syndicate. Just not worth it.
