I've only seen one live in action once, at an outdoor free concert in Estonia. Very cool. I guess this tune is one of the more famous ones featuring a Theremin:

There was a band in Boston called The Lothars. One of the members is from Abunai!, another a DJ at WMBR 88.1 , MIT/Cambridge, and I forget which band or radio station the third theramin player was from. This is a bit subdued, but to watch them play for 40 minutes really tested one's nerves.

John was also on America's got talent, but I'll play this clip instead. It was at a bash held at T.T. the Bear's in Cambridge.

A theramin was used in the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" also. Can get a theramin kit (complete) at the local electronics stores here in Oz, around 60 bucks the last time I looked at. They also have a midi compatible version for about an extra 100 bucks. Cheers

I knew I had this somewhere, didnt want to open my mouth til I found it. I have photographed (with phone) out of a book of schematics etc. Circa 1929 RCA Theramin schematic, all valve driven of course, so these things have been around for a long time. I'll see if I can find more on. Cheers
