The V1 guessing game

Is this a honest demo ??

I have only 4 Marshall's 1967 Black Flag 100 watt. 1968 Super Tremolo 100 watt 1968 Super Lead 100 watt. and a 1969 Park 75

I did try out the DSL line at my local music store they sounded like the demo I posted

Now last night our band played at jam night the band before us played $10,000.00 guitars and $500.00 amps all I can say is why ???

I've never owned a DSL, all the Marshalls that I have had predated the DSL line, but I have plugged into a few and from what I have experienced, yes, its a pretty fair demo. Seems to me he is playing at a pretty low volume, and from what I personally experienced the DSL's are fizz factories until you turn them up pretty loud, then they tighten up and the high end rounds out and starts sounding more "Marshall" if you know what I mean. Too loud to be useful at home IMO unless you have an attenuator or something like Robert does. Fine if you are at band volume all the time.

The folks who actually own one can probably chime in with more authority though.

One thing I notice is how sensitive this amp is to pickup output. My DSl40C sounded pretty good with a fairly low output PAF, but, as Gball pointed out, it was "fizzy' with hotter pickups. I tamed that with a JJ 5751 tube in V1. I also use a Weber 100 watt attenuator, which really helps get a good tone at a neighbor-friendly volume level. I think it's an honest demo, but I think the pickups in that SG are on the low output side and that really helps a lot...IMHO

I would have preferred that demo if everything wasn’t so wet, but it did do a better job of capturing the real sound of the amp.
