Everyone here needs a .017w 'g' string....
I want to try one!

Done that, uh, like 10,000 times, never felt I needed it. Just don't like the feel and really don't like the increase in string noise you get with another wound string.
Ah, you're talking about "stratitis" (wolftones). Lower your neck pickup some, maybe the middle a tad too. CheersIf you find yourself playing a phrase on a Stratocaster, on the 'g' string, in the 10-17th fret area on the neck pickup, you will need it...
Naah...thanks....I’ll just stick to having my pole pieces sensibly aligned for my chosen set up.Everyone here needs a .017w 'g' string....

Yep, my vintage Fender is only 35 years young...not the 1950s...not 7.5 inch radius...not “vintage” staggered pole pieces. It plays great. No “wolftones”. So I’m good with my set up...no wound G.That's not an option with some vintage Fenders and that seems to be where the Wolftones originate...seeing how the vintage Fenders came with wound 'g' strings...

I suppose....if you have vintage staggered, non adjustable, pole pieces...you might want to be sporting some equally vintage string spec's. But... If you can, perhaps you should, appropriately adjust/choose the set up of your pole pieces.
Meh....what do I know...
is a bit odd in that regard as it came stock with a compound (9.5 ~ 14") radius neck and pickups with vintage staggered pole pieces. The neck pickup (& middle, to a lesser degree) are set pretty low to avoid stratitis. You can see the treble side of the neck pickup is barely higher than the adjustment screw, the bass side almost flush with the pickguard. The pickups have the fiberboard flatwork so I could carefully press the poles down a little, but it sounds very good as is. If I want a bit more drive from it I step on the tube screamer. If I want even more drive I use my Jackson. Cheers
Spectre,
Spectre,
He's my guy too!
I finally was able to figure out how to upload pictures from my smart phone to Google Photos. Here's some recent pictures of my 1998 Fender American Standard Strat. It has the David Gilmour mod neck pick up on/off switch which I did myself some time back and I love the 2 extra tones I get from it. When I have just the bridge and neck pup on they are out of phase for that cool nasally tone. It by-passes the neck pup tone control knob for a no-load sound. It has a no-load tone knob for the bridge and middle pick ups when I put it up to 10 & you feel an indent. I've done other things like soak the pick up covers, the 5-way selector switch tip, control knobs and vibrato arm tip all in a mug of black coffee overnight for a vintage look. I also ebonized the rosewood fret board. I applied ebony wood stain to the FB and let soak overnight and repeated the process a couple of more times. Then I brushed on some raw linseed oil on the FB and let that soak in overnight repeating again the process for more of a shiny look and feel of ebony. The guitar body colour is sort of a midnight dark purple with very subtle metal flake in the finish and I love it very much. This guitar is a real player. I bought in back in May of 2005 for almost $1,100 including a Fender hard shell case at a pawn shop called "Trader Joe's".
