The Muse I Adorn

Tonight’s muse is inspired by scale length(25”) discussion, and moar P90 action…wanted to see if I could get some hum with the new gate and all…answer is…nope. Reminded myself how much I do dig the coil split/tap/whatever the tone knob in the back does when it’s pulled up ;)

Wow!…this thing is comfortable to play. Keeping it fairly mellow tonight though, to be fair.

Working on some new songs, overthinking one of them trying to come up with a good transition between a chorus and middle eight. Need to book some studio time next month. So tonight, it's the ES-335 into the Matamp. Also giving the '67 Vox Wah a work out. As well as playing with the Trainwreck Airbrake attenuator that I finally fixed after a major Reverb purchase fiasco. I don't think the Matamp really needs an attenuator. It would probably be best with my Marshalls, and maybe my Bandmaster.

Lately, its only these two guitars, tuned separately for the setlist requirements.

First up, the Les Paul Copy i traded a 2017 Gibson SG T-Series to Adrian (@esge) back in 2018.

This guitar is dimensionally perfect in every respect regarding scale length, bridge placement and fret-to-fret placement.

I earned enough working professionally with this guitar to buy a new 2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard Gold Top.

It's fully copper shielded (including the switch wire rout) and features a 21 tone Jimmy Page wire harness, courtesy of Jersey Shore Guitar Garage, an 'Afterburner' bridge pickup and a '1959' neck pickup, courtesy of PlanetTone, Grover Tuners and a Gotoh aluminum bridge and tailpiece.

This guitar is always in Eb tuning, unless the song requires lower tunings.

Next is the 2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard Gold Top with its huge 1.715" wide neck.

Its totally stock with a factory installed BB3/BB1 combo, factory aluminum bridge and tailpiece. Its used for standard and Drop-D tunings.

Amp wise, here at home, I'm constantly using Guitar Rig 6 for practice through headphones. This not only allows me to jam along to videos and recordings (there are no online tutorials for the Halford/Fight music, so it has to be picked put all by ear) but also allows me to start recording at the push of a button, anytime the creative urge strikes.

Playing out, i always use the only speaker cabinet that i own - a custom 2x12 with Celestion Copperback 250's, and most of the time, I'm using this old relic, 1993 Marshall Valvestate Bi-Chorus 200, skillfully modded and maintained by our own esteemed @Don O.

Playing around with the latest “Squatcher” board tonight. I’ve had the T-60 out for the last couple of nights, but I’ve been finding the neck a bit “crampy” for my left index finger…sounded great! Huge sounding axe! The neck pickup is a bit dark, but I think I can dial it in…someday. So I reached for something with a bit more girth…

Holy Smokes! What a beast! The Manlius pickups in this thing are fantastic!
I’m gonna hafta grab the V (same pickup maker/set) out of its living room living, and try it out on the “Squatcher“ board!

Yum!

I've been playing the Taylor acoustic and my old L-50 lately. They are the most comfortable on my hands. Having some nerve issues, and these two are very comfortable to play. For electrics, I've been sticking with the ES-335 and Flying V, and sometimes the EJ Strat. Again, all very fat round necks.

I haven’t been playing much lately. Busy with landscaping and clearing timber brush. Plus hand and fingers have been arguing with me. Realizing I think I finally have to start dealing with some arthritis. But I picked up my Ovation acoustic yesterday. Went pretty good actually. Once I got going, things seemed to loosen up and I was able to play. That made me happy.

Almost zero guitar playing or shop time lately.
Even less sleep than usual, lol.
Worth It.

Tanner got fixed and chipped yesterday. He is doing great post-op.
As a man, I have mixed feelings about this. (**shivers**) But I understand the benefits.
He is really terrified of the plastic cone and we just got this alternate Jetsons style an hour ago.
I'm at work, wife says so far so good.

After some minor surgery our pooch had we also ditched the plastic cone of shame and got her a soft one that Velcros on rather than snaps. Worked out better for everyone.

We had to do the same to the cats last year after getting “fixed” and chipped.

Not sure how we got to cats and dogs in the Muse thread….
