The Muse I Adorn

No directed to me, but I want to address this because it is a question I am asked often.

I do not - ever - want a speaker or an amp to 'break up.' I want to be able to push near full volume without any speaker distortion. This is NOT easy with bass and resonance full up. Few speakers could handle it at these volume levels.

This is the true beauty of my amp/rig....

The Jensen 80 watt Stealth and the WGS 50 watt Reaper 55 Hz can really take a pounding...

It is interesting though that so much of the "Rock Guitar Tone" that we are used to hearing on albums (especially live albums) is just that: the power section breaking up/distorting and the low-watt speaker cones shitting the bed. I'm not necessarily a fan of the speaker breakup, and prefer high-wattage ones, but for me one of the most exhilarating experiences I can have it diming an amp and getting real, honest-to-goodness power section breakup out of it.

Needed to start covering amps and putting away the guitars for some work around here that I’ve been putting off. So, needed a shot first. The past three weeks has been spent mainly with the Flying V. I messed around with the Strat for the past week or so, but mostly unplugged. I’ve also been playing my Dobro, and today played the Billy-Bo. The JTM45 has been the amp of choice, but will probably get a short break for now.
