The Gain + Reverb dilemma

I continue to struggle with how gain sounds with reverb at higher volumes. I find my sound flat without reverb, and delay is no substitute. Howver gain, especially gain from pedals, produces an unpleasing "echo", for lack of a better description.

I have seen this issue written about before. Anyone here struggle with this issue or was able to find a solution?
 
i use no reverb at all.. in studio or live..the 4x12 cab or 4x10 fender combo is way better more natural. You get consistent tone all the time without what i call the unpredictable washout or tunnel effect..as an only guitar player live ,,that guitar has to be tight...its not for everybody..but my guy took my board last year in studio..not 1 effect except leads boosted on any recordings..strait in..i had to learn technique & side slashes & strikes with octaves to cause dimension.. use RAT & Sweetbaby mostly to just boost. I do use analog delay & analog chorus from time to time when i feel like Pink Floyd leads..the delay & chorus can team up to be cavernous without gain effecting it..analog tho..digital sounds like a computer fake to me and the gain into it just..cabs with good natural projection add that natural reveb & dimension...just my experience & preference..

try all analog..was doing some jaming today..very slight delay..not much echo & the barely on chorus..it sounds just like Comfortably Numb solo...i use cheapy Joyo analog chorus & delay..tried others..these just have basic movements &not a exotic as others but you can get that guitar into those ranges without the tunnel effect

I couldn’t have typed it better myself.
Live rig is pedals galore, but recording...dirt pedals only please..:all of the spacial effects get their own tracks...
 
that above is my Pink Floyd settings into fender Pro Reverb..Jimmy Vaughn, tex mex pup strat nails it. look at how low my gain is on RC & SB. i gang them up for bump then push it for searing solo's.. the repeat is barely on on delay & mix is set to act like a reverb not a delay..the chorus i hit for the soaring sounds. have yet to know what to do with the SP compressor..lol

tone on SB & RC is low cause bright on fender is on

The main reason Marshall said digital delay was used in the DSL40C.

I've found a bag on the tank helps this quite a bit...

I'd be totally lost. My board is my tone...and reverb is a key element of my sound. I couldn't do what I do with a tank reverb.

my pups & my amps are my tone...that is why i have the guitars i do..very..very specific pickups...i play the amp as a control station...but i get to play my music. would def need a board for covers tho..if & when we go live again...Tuner-Sweetbaby-RAT thats it &4 guitars,,..,my amps have no loops.

It can’t be changed in post...that can present problems down the line.
For example, “can we ditch that reverb and delay on the chorus?...nope...it’s printed on the whole track...we’ll have to re-track/overdub...”
 
I didn’t have reverb on my first Marshall, I didn’t miss it, there is a natural response with a tube amp
(sag) or something that to me takes the place of reverb!,
My origin amps have no reverb
but my mosfets do!
I always make sure that they are off, my dsl40c’s have a digital reverb, and again I have to make sure that they are off!
I have been experimenting with delay a little bit, but I still need some work on that aspect!
As all who have heard my sloppy clips can attest to this!
I will say when it’s done right it does sound great!
I am not on that page yet!
But I am striving to get there!
