String Joy 30 day challenge

He calls them spider walks. I call them spider climbers.
He is 100% on the money. It’s an exercise you should do every time you pick up a stringed instrument. It’s something I do as a warm up all the time.
Here are other variations I do. He covers going 1-2-3-4 and 1-3-2-4. I also add 1-4-2-3 and if you really want to challenge yourself here is an exercise I learned from the Guitar Aerobics book I have. Go 1-2-3-4 but string skip doing 1-3 on the E and 2-4 on the A and walk that up and down.
Also use a metronome! There are apps you can download to get this and they are free.

That conservation of movement is a really good piece of advice. I’m certainly guilty of not working that more often. This piece I warm up with but can’t play well requies very little finger movement. You bar at the 12th fret and just move 2 fingers up and down off the fret board. How hard can that be ! :run:

Interesting you mention conservation of movement. Was watching a ZZ Top concert on TV. They focused in on Billy. I honestly could not get a sense his right hand was moving.

I really like the one today on finger stretching, its very good, I stretch my fingers with exercises, but I like the way this guy does it on the fretboard..
We'll see how it works out. My pinky finger just doesn't seem to always work as advertised. Minor hand fracture something like 50 years ago and even though everything healed just fine, I've always wondered if it didn't affect my pinky finger movement. Only seems to be when reaching for a note..... otherwise day to day normal activities, no issues.

Right now my stretch from pointer finger to pink is from fret 5 - 10.
I have to admit, I don’t do my stretches like I used to at all. I will incorporate these stretching exercises into my warmup. I want to see if my span increases in a week

Did a video of my routine but something weird happened with you tube.
I’ll post it again.
I found Video is a good way to track progress. I’ll post it again.

I've been saving these lesson videos (URL's) to a text file so I can go back to them. About the time this cranked up we had a reconstruction project start here. Had drywall tape in the living room start cracking. And with our living room having an 18ft ceiling, it just wasn't something we could do. SO hire a crew. Bring in the scaffolding. When they're done repairing the tape they're gonna paint the ceiling and walls. Needless to say. We had to take everything out of said living room and stack wherever. Which meant bedrooms. Right now, can't really even get to guitars. But I have been watching the videos and will try and get caught up once I have a room back.
