Strap locks

Not a fan of any mechanisms with hidden springs, ball-bearings grub screws and such.
I believe mostly in a bigger deeper button, an upsized screw and good leather on the strap.

From what I can see BIG Strap has been getting cheaper and cheaper with ever-more-flimsy leather ends, which is why so many guitarists feel the need to lock 'em on, or they flop off

But putting a Lock on your thinner strap end won't make it stronger. I prognosticate over the next 5-7 years we are going to begin seeing a lot of strap end ripping failures. I hope not, but what I see In stores really gives me pause for thought.

In a previous post of mine is a photo of what I’m using in my electrics. Sorry Brad. Already had them and were installed before meeting you here in TTR. But so far they seem to work fine.

I’ve only ever had a strap let go of my guitar once. It was my Ovation acoustic. My baby. And it fell all the way to the floor. Wasn’t able to catch it. It was one of those cheap cloth straps that looked cool…. But strap ends were crap. Since that time I’ve used a couple higher end all leather straps…. At least one hand made…. And have had zero failure since.

I got a set of Dunlops as a gift in 1988. I still have them and they still work. I only recently changed them out for a newer Dunlop version because the finish had worn off...

I’m an Schaller strap lock fan. Their older design used a nut and washer to secure the piece that attached to the strap. I found I had to check them quite often. The newer design in the pic has a nice fat thumb wheel nut to tighten and then there’s a set screw to keep it there. A much better design.
