Got 4-5 inches here on Sunday night into Monday. I cleared it off the cars Tuesday and went out for a little bit of groceries around 8 PM.

Only did about a 5 -6 mile round trip. Temps have been in the teens at night and mid 20's during the day since then. We might hit 33-35 F today for a spell. Of course I was pressing my luck on trying to do a water pump on my truck out in the driveway for a few weeks of good temps. Then as I went to install the 2nd of 2 pumps I had delivered, I broke a bolt off in the engine part behind the timing cover( first pump was damaged, now this) So of course the cold azz BS weather moves in as I need to pull the timing cover and get that nub of a bolt out. WHY can't I have a garage that I could at least heat with a wood stove or other heat?

I've done my share of driveway repair over the years. Even unheated, a garage is nice.... if for no other reason than it gets you out of the weather. Sorry to hear of your water pump problems. Broken bolts suck !!

Iblive,

I bet a good number of us have braved the heat, cold, precip etc to repair our machines.

I can't count the number of curse words I have blurted out while squeezing under a low car to fix exhausts, clutches, fuel and brake lines etc.
Or how many clutches, oil pans, gaskets, etc I have wrestled to and from under a car or truck on gravel with plywood and cardboard to help get me and the parts out and back in. My biggest challenge to date was still my 88 F250 4x4 that I would drop the transmission and transfer case all as one piece and not have it roll off the jack and or my legs etc as I would guide it up and back into position to bolt back together with the engine.

Here at my fiancee's house, I surely could have whipped up a garage over top of a 15x30 slab of concrete she has, but unfortunately her house is historic and I can't just apply for a generic building permit and do the work and get it inspected and be done. I have to submit plot plans, architectural type plans and materials styles/type lists, to the Historic Review Board and get their okie dokie, however that whole process goes to get disapproved or approved. Only then can I apply for a county building permit and start the work. All of which costs extra money on historic details vs regular utilitarian type garage building materials.

Same goes for any house remodeling/repairs. I wish I could convince her to move her out for 6-8 months, let me do a quick spruce up, and then sell the place to buy a better one in a better neighborhood on a more secluded property.

Or had to fix it ourselves since we couldn't afford to take it to a mechanic. While I did have a cramped garage with concrete floor to work on.... I still remember one time I had some work to do on our "good" car. Gathered up as many of the repair parts as I felt I'd need, since I'd be working on it after all the auto stores closed. Wife gets home from work. Once I start there's no turning back. She needs it by 7:00 AM to go to work. Somewhere around 3 or 4 in the morning I finish. Grab a couple hours of sleep since I also have to go to work.

It took us most of our 45 years of being married before we got to a point where we felt we could finally afford to pay someone to fix a car.... or kitchen appliance... etc. I still do some work on my cars. Oil change. Brakes. Some exhaust. Beyond that, in many cases I don't have proper tools... and frankly the desire to do it anymore.

This is looking out my apartment window. You can see where they shove that snow with a road grader. The roads have a bunch of County and state snow plows going all the time also.School here doesnt shut down for snow days unless its severe.

Getting light snow already..
