I've done my share of driveway repair over the years. Even unheated, a garage is nice.... if for no other reason than it gets you out of the weather. Sorry to hear of your water pump problems. Broken bolts suck !!
Iblive,
I bet a good number of us have braved the heat, cold, precip etc to repair our machines.
I can't count the number of curse words I have blurted out while squeezing under a low car to fix exhausts, clutches, fuel and brake lines etc.
Or how many clutches, oil pans, gaskets, etc I have wrestled to and from under a car or truck on gravel with plywood and cardboard to help get me and the parts out and back in. My biggest challenge to date was still my 88 F250 4x4 that I would drop the transmission and transfer case all as one piece and not have it roll off the jack and or my legs etc as I would guide it up and back into position to bolt back together with the engine.
Here at my fiancee's house, I surely could have whipped up a garage over top of a 15x30 slab of concrete she has, but unfortunately her house is historic and I can't just apply for a generic building permit and do the work and get it inspected and be done. I have to submit plot plans, architectural type plans and materials styles/type lists, to the Historic Review Board and get their okie dokie, however that whole process goes to get disapproved or approved. Only then can I apply for a county building permit and start the work. All of which costs extra money on historic details vs regular utilitarian type garage building materials.
Same goes for any house remodeling/repairs. I wish I could convince her to move her out for 6-8 months, let me do a quick spruce up, and then sell the place to buy a better one in a better neighborhood on a more secluded property.
