Starting to get scared

It’s starting to sink in that I am going to lose people I know to COVID-19. Most of my friends and relatives are in the high risk age group including me. I’m scared but I always find a way to stay sane. When I’m down music always brings me back up. Spent some time banging out really loud chords on the SG Blackstar rig today. Spent some more time working on writing a new song on my LaPatrie Etude classical guitar. Ended up on YouTube watching Playing for Change videos.

Yeah. Me too. It’s been suggested worst case scenario is 50% of the US population will become infected before we get a vaccine and under control. If 1% infected ultimately die. The US stands to lose over a million of its population to this thing. Remember. The guy I was reading was giving worst case. Doesn’t have to be that bad if we listen to the smart people and follow their direction. And I will not turn this political.

But I hear this stuff. Looking across the living room at the love of my life, I find myself facing the real possibility than one or both of us is going to get this no matter how careful we are.

For some reason I don't feel that worried about this. I think we will overcome it. The outbreak in Korea was huge, but the death rate was less than 1%. They handled the outbreak well.
I know we are much larger, but if people dig up the facts and stop listening to mainstream media, who are driving the panic, we will overcome this...

There is some good information on the virus in these POD casts. They start of with some random news bits, but go into a very good conversation with an infectious disease expert.
This guy is the co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine so I imagine he knows what he is talking about.

It really starts around the 10 minute mark. This is POD Cast #2 and the site has two follow ups. If you don't like it or disagree please just don't listen to it. I truly believe it has some good info.

If any other Mods or Admins feel the need to take this down I'll just be quiet...

Hang in there y'all. It's projected that the numbers in the USA are going to get much worse in the next couple of weeks. Hope this won't be an excuse for anyone to act uncivilized.

Panic outbreaks and random violence is my worst fear. People have already been attacking Asians and blaming the entire Asian population for the outbreak. My wife happens to be Korean so I am wary of this...

I just don’t get the mentality that leads to the profiling of a branch of humanity as the source for a human contagion.
As a species....we fail if we think that way...a virus has no prejudice....it seeks a home...to reproduce.

I wish all of my fellow humans well...

edit: Disease is not a registered political party member, nor is it racist....it is an organism...we all are its food and shelter. (Just my opinion....?)

It is very scary. I wonder what the new normal will be like. I wonder if we will be suspicious about a hug or handshake fron now on, or fear people who cough or sneeze.

We need to solve this problem, and then begin to make plans to be more prepared for the next infectious disease we have never seen before. If the next one has a higher mortality rate than the present 1%, we will need to act that much quicker.

Please remember that unless someone coughs or sneezes directly on you, this thing needs your help the get in your system. Wash your hands, clean surfaces, and keep your hands away from your face.

Stay safe all.

This makes me sad to hear...that humans have difficulty in understanding that we are ”all” under attack by an organism that thinks of us all as food, and a place to “shack-up-n-shag”. This organism is, apparently, pretty determined to use any path available to keep the party rolling....

The deaths from the virus will be bad. There is no way around this. The whole point of social distancing and self quarantine is not to stop the virus. It is to slow the spread of it so the hospitals don’t get overwhelmed. How many people will die because they couldn’t get that bypass operation? All the beds were full and the doctor that was going to do the operation is sick from the virus. How many people will die from car accidents because the emergency room was full of virus patients. Many people will have mild symptoms. Those that get sick get very, very sick. The virus causes primary pneumonia. The flu allows other pathogens to cause secondary pneumonia. The difference is night and day. Secondary is treated by bed rest and antibiotics or antivirals. Primary requires ventilation for many days. We all have to do our part and take the economic hit. Stay home. Don’t interact with others unless your job is essential. Governments of all levels have to provide whatever economic relief they can so that people can do this. We can’t stop COVID-19 but we can slow it down until a vaccine is found. If we don’t slow it down many, many people will die needlessly. I’ll get off the soapbox now.

I'm worried we are going to build a super strain of virus with all this hand sanitizer use...
I would also become worried about any organism that adapts to overcome drowning in alcohol solution.
I, for one, am happy to report that my hands are no longer spontaneously bleeding...since I am home, and no longer have to use so much hand soap.
