Speaker Questions in 2x12 Cabinet:

Best speaker I have used personally in terms of clarity and volume on outdoor stages, was the 12"/16 ohm/75watt Electro-Harmonix 12VR75 with 101db SPL.

No matter how hard you hit that speaker, it retained clarity .

Professional speakers cost a lot more money but I think it's worthwhile. For me it is.
I think when I bought my first EVMs in 1973 they cost $140 each.
But soon after I was very happy that I paid the extra cash.
Before I bought the good speakers, I was buying $29 Utahs and I was melting them over and over again.
After I started using EVM, there was no way I could kill them. I marveled at the indestructible nature.

I think there was a time when I would spend any amount of $$$ to score a particular piece of gear, but now I'm kind leaning toward just using the best combination of the gear that I have on hand...

Then what you want is Neo Magnets.

I have two Neodymium Jensen's in stock. An 80 watt Tornado Stealth (98.3 db) 4.8 pounds and a 100 watt Jet Tornado (97db) weighing only 4.4 pounds. Both saw extensive use in my DSL40C's but I have never used them together at the same time in a single cabinet.

They might pair well???

Robert, it's no joke what 67 and AMS are saying about the EV speakers. I had a Boogie once that had the Mesa-branded EV in it and it seriously smoked anything else I have ever tried for keeping its cool at absurd volume and filling a room with a single speaker (had a Fane in a Laney amp once that came close but not quite).

They are heavy. They are expensive. But they are worth the cost and effort if you really want to move some air effortlessly. One of these literally is worth 2 or more of something else and they are indestructible. You could move to a 1x12 cab with one of these things.

Caveat: they are not my favorite sounding speakers, but that's subjective. For volume nothing can touch them

Yes, Sir!!! 300 watt capability!!!!

Does the wiring in your cab use spade connectors or is everything soldered? If it's spades and open-back just start rolling speakers in different combinations until you like what you hear.

Spades, Sir...I probably will when the head comes back from Greg. Was trying to find a scientific pairing ahead of time.

EVM 12S are very cool speakers and incredible sounding, pricey however. For reliability and price? Hard to beat a good Celestion: there's a reason they're the go to guitar cab speaker in most major brand cabinets.

Personally, i like the Vintage 30s and even the classic Greenback 25s, but I was born a T-75 guy and I'll die a T-75 guy. They handle every spectrum of music wonderfully and are great well rounded in the Mids, as well as pronounced highs and lows. The K100 however, is a WICKED speaker and gives you a great kick in the guts, like a T-75 on steroids in the mids and a lot more bottom end. I use both actually for this very reason.

The Celestion branded Gold S303 in the 30th Anniversary Marshall combos are EVM12L. Celestion had no 200 watt speakers to fit the bill in that 100 watt combo. It is a vwry small amp and that made ot extremely heavy.
I found them harsh with that amp. Very. Perhaps not with other amps but harsh with that one. I put a T75 in. Liked it way better. I sold the 2 gold ( one from the 6912 1x12 cab as well) and never looked back.
Tonally, a creamback G12 -65M or 75 or V30 are better speakers for me than an EVM.

65M ( creambacks) is another awesome speaker too!

So, today I took my cabinet with me to do some clean up and decide on what speaker combination I am gonna try next.

I'm not overly impressed with the 12", 50watt WGS Reaper 55Hz speaker, although it was highly touted.

I've been running the Reaper 55Hz with the Jensen 80watt Stealth, and while the cabinet never did 'Flub-Out,' I cannot say the tone was really remarkable???

The biggest difference I see between these speakers (aside from weight) is the Resonance Frequency.

The 100watt Jensen has a RF or 70

The 80watt Jensen has a RF of 72

The Celestion 70/80 has an RF of 85

Not sure what that means...

Voice coils are Aluminum on the Italian made 100watt Jensen and Copper on the Celestion and the 80watt Jensen...
