Sp8ctre and RVA's Guitar Adventure

It's a learning process and I think you're getting your Masters on this one!
Thanks. I really do want you to have a stellar guitar.

That said, the potential of the neck are defined by the deficiencies in the neck. If I had to do it over again, I would do everything the same (except for the string tree, which is no big deal). I already sanded further than I thought possible when sanding the fret board. Any further may have completely compromised the neck and ended the project there. That would have been bad. At this point, I think I went far enough. If it was not, it is only now, with 20/20 hind sight, that it would be clear that we must risk destroying the neck by excessive fret board sanding to get where we need to be. Tonight will tell us the answer.

In the back of my mind was a new rosewood fingerboard fitted to the existing neck, wouldn't that have kept it from the scrap bin?

I am not certain you can just put a FB on a neck that was not built to accommodate one, but if this was possible, I could not pull it off. In any event, I think it would not be worth it at that point and more prudent to cut your losses.

We're not looking at scrapping this yet are we???

Back in post #44 I commented,

"Watching this thread with great interest.
I seriously considered buying this guitar when advertised but posting to Australia was the killer.
With enough lateral thinking and effort everything can be fixed.
Please stick with the original plan, sometimes the things most worthwhile require extra effort.
Good luck with it!!! "

Usually when I take a project on the time and effort become secondary, the result (at almost any cost) is where the satisfaction comes from (not to mention the experience gained from each project).

Have we succeeded? I will let you decide.

Notes: The build-up has been so great, I was very nervous playing. It is only meant as a tech test. Also, it is not fully set up but I wanted to get a clip out, so there is room for improvement.

High E & B: Action set at 3/64

G & D: Action set 1/16

Low A & E: Action set 3/64

Here we go!!!

Sounds pretty damn good to me! Just to get a playable guitar at this point is amazing and shows the high quality of work you put in! Not sure if I'm going to love those Lawrence PUP's, but I know I'll get a sound I like with my modeling rig!

How does she feel?

Very nice. She is a heavy girl. The neck still feels plenty chunky.

All I did was spend money on parts and nod my head yes when RVA wanted to jump in deeper!
He deserves all the credit for making this thread interesting and my much maligned Rosewood
beauty sound as good as she looks!
