Sonny Boy Guitars - LeSG

No i don't have recorded my test guitar yet. You might search for Nanomag. But it is easy and cheap to make a test: buy a cheap single coil for a few bucks. Replace the winding by about 500 turns of 0.2 mm wire (0.1 mm will do fine as well; it does not really matter) and run this into the mic input of a mixer console.

What happens? The resonance will be outside the audible range, and the response of the PU in the interesting range will be essentially flat.

Every time I see it, I can't believe that I finally have it! I think I'm done with the tung oil now. It's gonna cure til next weekend and I'll see if it ready for assembly.

Safe to assume you recessed the TOM because there is no neck angle ?

That question would have to be answered by the builder, Glenn. I do know that the Lasbrook bridge recommends very little string break angle, I believe between 3 - 17 degrees. The Lashbrook may also be a bit higher than the standard TOM.

I do not think there is no neck angle. It is an archtop where the top exceeds the height of the mounting point of the neck. So if You are using an SG-like neck angle You need to lower the bridge (compared to an SG).

That makes sense.

There is neck angle on the wavemixer guitar.
The Lashbrook bridge if I remember correctly is 16mm tall + 3 more mm for the nut that holds the bridge together. So recessing was necessary. A regular TOM would have fit perfect.
The Lashbrook is a very good looking alternative.

I have a small ridge where the fret board was masked that will require some sanding to level the ridge. Other than that, it's assembly time next weekend.

True Oil seems to be an interesting stuff - gloss seems to come by itself.

I used Forbys Tung Oil which is different than Tru Oil. Forbys is not 100% tung oil, it is a mixture of tung oil and shellac.

Wow...I remember seeing the post on etsg. I was wondering how it turned out. Nice work on the build.

Can't wait to see the assembled pictures. That's a beautiful, one of a kind, you have there.

She looking good, she's looking glossy. Did the finish add any weight to that thing....Jk
I bet that guitar came in at 3 lbs max...Before the hardware.
Very nice job wavemixer.

you apply that Tung oil by wiping it on ?
I wiped the first couple of coats on, then applied with a 600 grit wet-n-dry sandpaper. Then went to 800 grit, then 2000 grit. The last few coats were alternating between the 2000 grit then wiping on with an old cotton t-shirt being the final application. I probably have around 20 coats, I was more concerned with how it looks and feels more than counting coats. Kinda like setting up your guitar Biddlin's way rather than with feeler gauges
