I used to own two Epis, but I sold my lovely Wilshire to a good friend.

That Wilshire is an excellent instrument... I found it used on the wall of a music store,
and rescued it. It sounded fine and played fine stock, but I liked it so much that I did a lot
of "improvements." Then I liked it better. *grins. The Wilshire weighs about 7 pounds,
feels like less, and balances perfectly. Mine is a 2006, and very well made in Tsingtao.
Mods:
Custom ebony TRC with Abalone and MOP inlays, Grover Locking tuners, Tusq nut,
Gibson 490R neck p'up, Golden Age Overwound humbucker bridge p'up, Tone Pros bridge
and tail, upgraded wiring kit from StewMac. Black & White motif.
One thing about Epiphones: they respond really well to upgrades, but only do this for your
own playing pleasure. You can't get your money back when you sell. Aye well, chalk it up to
the "entertainment" budget, like you do when you go to the race track. I had about $750 into
that Wilshire, but I couldn't get $500, even from guys who knew what it was. *shrugs
I ain't selling my ES-339. I've put a few hundred's weight of upgrades into the ES, and
it plays and sounds great. That blonde bombshell can take her place alongside guitars costing
much much more, and not give up a thing IMHO. I named her Caledonia. The stock P-90s were
fine, but I got a pair of Rose Pickups P-90s and love the tone. Ken Rose answers his phone, and
he asked me what my style was like, and the kind of tone I liked, and then he wound my p'ups
for me.
The neck pickup has a warm, woody Jazzy tone to it that fits my style very well. It sounds great
through my Orange Micro Terror and a couple of home made cabs. The bridge pickup is hotter
and more gritty, it's pure rock an roll and I love the tone of that one too. The pair are wired to be like a big hum bucker when I flip to the middle, so I use middle positon a lot. No noise, or not
much. Can't part with my Epi ES-339.
Other mods:
Gotoh black locking tuners, black tusq nut, Ebony TRC, hand carved (by me) Ebony pick guard
Gotoh black bridge & tail, high quality wiring harness from Sigler Music.
Each time I put down either of these two Epiphones after playing, it was with the spoken or
unspoken comment: "What a great guitar..." That, my friends is priceless.
