So..... don't freak out or anything but...I got a strat...

Lmao I swore against them my whole life. Then, got gifted one......then I played it.....then I kept playing it.....then I have kept playing it even more lol!
I have one and use it for songs needing a tremolo. Its super light and ergonomically comfortable. The custom made DiMarzio Neanderthal 16.5k AlNico9 44AWG is on par with a EMG81TW and it sounds decent, but I just don't feel endeared to Stratocasters in general.

Here are some semi-valid comebacks for you strat lovers.

1. Obituary..... One of the guitarists in that band plays a strat..... I can hear it just a little bit.

2. Iron Maiden.... I watch Dave and even Janick and think to myself .... Gosh so much talent! If I even gave them a cheap Jackson, or a Gibson V!!! ....think how much better would their tone be!! Imagine iron maiden with better tone!!

3. Jimi played a strat.... (I wish he would have stuck to his V. )

4. Judas Priest..... Sometimes "the new guy" Glen Tipton will play a strat.... It's hard to watch, I've always loved Priest.

In my short rebuttal:

All the other "greats" that played a strat (SRV, Blackmore, Morse, Beck, Malmsteen, Lee, gilmour, Clapton, and sometimes: hammett, moore, etc.) I think their tone sucked. Well maybe not Jakes...

That's just me.... I'm sure I will gain a lot of hate for typing those words ha ha ha because I know so many people absolutely love and worship those tones. But that's just not where my love is.

Metal.

Here's just a few things I hate about strats...

1. Plastic everything everywhere. Could you put any more plastic on the things???
2. Single coils are weak, noisy, crap for pickups
3. Headstock is at a weird angle feels like the whole neck is bowed (literally my most hated thing)
4. Round everything, hard thick plastic paint looks like a blow up inflatable toy instead of a guitar
5. Fake whammy bar that knocks strings out of tune if you take it for a real dive! Why no locking nut?
6. No pulling up on the trem.
7. Pickup in the middle where your pick should be strumming and picking.... Right in the way!
8. Ugly misplaced output jack.
9. Headstock looks like a 3rd grader designed it
10. Sounds like poop when distorted or clean
11. 5 way selector blade is hideous.
12. Knobs all sit too close together.
13. Made all over the place, they all look the same they all look like Chinese junk to me.
14. They are not metal! (I don't care who plays a super strat and you think it sounds metal...it doesn't)
15. Second ugliest guitar in the world.
16. Jazz and country guitar... My 2nd and 3rd most disliked types of music.
17. Lots of people love them.... Which makes me not love them.
18. The Tone just sucks!

Don't get me started on teles.....

Whew! I feel a lot better..... (Insert smiley face here)
He's baaaaacccccckkkkkk!!! Good nights sleep. Had breakfast. Raring to go with a few counterpoints. As already stated..... some of your comments are spot on. However...........

1. Well... every electric guitar I've had hung around my shoulder regardless brand and price point has had a plastic pick guard and plastic knobs. The rest of the guitar has been wood and metal. As is my strat.
2. Single coils fit my style of playing..... clean. (take note: Playing not listening.) I have a set of noiseless pups on mine. Not noisy at all.
4. Don't dislike the shape. You get no argument from me on paint.... Which is why the one I purchased Fender either stained and cleared or used a translucent blue so the Ash grain stands out. Or I wouldn't have bought it. The photo really doesn't show the grain, in person it really does look nice.
5 & 6. The whammy bar is more of a wiggle bar for me. But in messing around I have laid into it and it always snaps back in tune. (should be mentioned, I do not have the stock Fender saddles or string trees on mine. I have Graph Tech String Save Saddles and Graph Tech Roller String Trees. Maybe that help??)
7. Oddly doesn't seem to be an issue, but I can see for someone that really gets into some serious picking how it could. Never figured out how Ace plays a 3 pup Les Paul.
8. No worse than where Gibson put the jack on an SG.
10. See #2
13. No argument. Mine happens to be a MIM.
14. See #2 and #10
15. Well..... here goes, and I mean no offense. I have no issue with shape. However..... never been a fan of "pointy" guitar. ;)
16. I like jazz. Agree on country. Although I will listen to country if someone else turns it on. I can be polite. Rap and Hip-Hop, I'll leave the room.
17. Exactly the reason i did not buy one for years. Everyone I knew had and played one. So I bought a G400

Bottom line. There's a guitar type and guitar shape out there for everyone. One size don't fit all. And ya gotta love it or you won't play it.... and then what's the point? A wise man once told me, "it's a good thing we're all different or we'd be chasing the same girl."

Just so happens I've mostly been playing the 2 Squier strats I put together recently. Finally, really bonding with these. The tones are different and have their place to me. It certainly is a different thing.
Using a little OD lately, with some Univibe and Fuzz, and learning some of Robin Trower style licks and mixing them in with what I have.
Finally learning to use Fuzz too. Gotta break out the wah and get better with that too.

I wont be foresaking the SG, LP, or Vee, etc. any time soon though.

We have a new rescue puppy at home, Tanner. My already limited playing time is , well, more limited.

100% agree that you have to like your guitar or you won't play it. And that we all have different tastes and that's what makes the world go round.

I would also state for the record, that blue is the only color on strats that I don't hate.

Being an anti-Strat guy for many years due to every single other kid I knew having one and basically hating them for that reason alone, yeah I eventually came around after the fad wore off lol ( I'm contrary as hell like that, but I'll always be a Gibson guy at the end of the day!)

First Strat I ever really wanted was the one Fender issued back around 2001 or so: the Iron Maiden Japan Strat. To me, it just looked awesome and had so much going on for what it was. Plus I'm a massive Maiden junkie so that didn't hurt lok

It had everything I wanted except the fretboard being Maple. A Floyd Rose, Duncan JB Jr in the bridge and two Hot Rails in the mid and neck. Loved the black and mirror pickguard too but when I went to grab one, they were gone and the price doubled and eventually tripled.

Eventually, I started liking certain aspects of Strats more and more but I'm also a devout humbucker guy, so enhanced models or super Strats became the only ones I truly wanted. When my dad gifted me his G&L Legacy Special it checked almost all the boxes minus the tremolo ( though I've come to appreciate the Dual Fulcrum for it's very great stability).

Having a Powerblade bridge and 2 Dual blade pickups, a graphite nut, locking tuners and a rosewood fretboard were all pluses for me. I would've loved this guitar in any format it had because it was a special gift but having nearly everything I wanted, its perfect for me if no one else. Plus, its incredibly versatile from clean jangly sounds to downright grit. Also, hey, it's technically NOT a Strat ( though arguably closer in authenticity than most) so I can say I still never owned a Strat if the 15 year old me wants to come back out and be contrary lol

From crystal clean
To filthy raunch

Ha ha ha, sorry brother..... I bash them all the same.... Equal rights and all that. But I guess I could see hating the s-s-s the most.
Gasp, Shock and, horror!

Good sir I will have you know that super strats take care of all of your complaints! Mine has a floating Floyd rose system so yes you can pull up! No pickguard, metal tone and volume knobs, the volume knob is out of the way, two emg humbucking pickups, and on top of that, a killer headstock! Yes my Dinky has a bolt on neck (not that it affected my sustain at all) so we go over to my Schecter Damian super strat that has a volute at the headstock and a satin coated set neck!

Good sir, I insist you cease and desist with the inexplicable slandering of the sacred super strats which where prevalent in the heavy metal genre in the 80’s and early nineties and to this day are being utilized and favored by musicians in some of the most brutal of music! The band Lorna Shore comes to mind!

Instead I suggest that we form a metal truce and tackle the real issue! The telecastsrs! We must avenge our brother in arms Ramos and combine our disliking of the coffee table with strings designed country instrument that dares invade upon our territory of genre and show it what for!

So slap some thicker strings on that strat, for the love of all that is metal, change out those pickups and RIFF!!!!!

Y'know, I'm sensing some deep-seated frustration and anxiety in you. You don't need to be ashamed; we all have fears and uncertainties which plague our thinking.

But, this is not good for your mental or spiritual health.

The good thing is that you're among friends and we're here to help.

Now, I believe you purchased this SSO for a reason. Deep down, at your subconscious level, you realize that this Strat-like experience will help you grow and develop. Now, don't resist this growth opportunity in your life. You're on the verge of a new era in your musical journey. Embrace it!

(Now, there will be those who may come along who will discourage this new growth opportunity. They will encourage you to stay where you are. You must resist the temptation to remain in the status-quo, as that leads to stagnation.)

But, you know what to do! You may not want to admit it to yourself, but you can feel it calling you!
