So Anyway...

How do you get years out of an EL84? Mine go about 30-40 hours, which is usually inside a year with multiple amps.
Dunno...I’ve not had to replace many EL84 power tubes...you’ve heard my recordings...
A set of JJs lasted me like 6 years in my 18watt...gigging, and studio time. I picked up a few of the tubes I linked above to replace them...not really “needed”, but an improvement. I put some in my TT, and same thing. Both are running happily now.(more clean headroom)
The Classic 30 that I’ve inherited could definitely use a new set of power tubes....I don’t know if I’d go as far as the Sovteks....JJs maybe...maybe I’d go for the Sovteks...obviously I’m torn.

So it is an attentuator? What do the knots do?
Yes.
The knots are strain relief.

I realize the wood mounting block negates the heat sink into the pedal enclosure, but at 12-18w I dont think heat will be an issue.
But it has been bugging me; I will check on them after some play time tonight.

what ever happened to the pass around guitar project? Did I miss something?

I'm still contemplating it. The cheap Epiphone seemed to meet with little interest. I don't want to send out an expensive guitar first try either.

I have a guitar hanging on the wall with the pickups out. I'm considering sending it out. The first acceptee would have to install the pickups I send
or install better ones...

I think I can hand deliver the guitar to Don O after the holidays...

That sounds cool...like building a model.

Chris, I’m off 17 days for the Christmas break, so this could be doable. My Elumi project is waiting for parts as the concentric pot was fubar and I think one of the pups was a prototype that made it out into the wild and ain’t suitable for an install. But I also have queued up a few projects for that time that include:

Taking the Zebra Pearly Gates setup that was in Elumi and putting them in the Zebra wood PRS SE
A project that includes an ebony neck and Stormy Monday pups
A low budget build with great looking wood and a Strat blue pick guard loaded setup

And I probably have a few honey do’s to work on...

Sounds like you have a lot of fun stuff to work on...minus the honey do of course. I spend a lot of time on that myself
and it never ends.

I'll be back down here in Long Beach Wednesday for a couple days and then again the week after for a couple more.

Maybe we can meet for lunch and I'll pass off the goods!

Let me know.

No sounds like the new China made EL-84 I have had so many Fender Blues JR amps crap out in that time frame My friend Scott just got a new VOX AC-10 fried
in less than two hours. When My sister in law and I went shopping for amps yesterday they had VOX Fender and Friedman we went for the Friedman
The Russian Military EL-84 can be 1000/5000/10,000 hour tubes they were made for ICBM'S and can take 500 vdc Max
When I build a EL-84 amp I use GDS Radio Spares clone transformers B+280vdc under load

Went for a Ruby Tubes dealership they sent me crap all the tubes tested bad. I called them OH you want our premium line of tubes.

The Friedman Runt 20 cost triple of what the China VOX or the Mexican Fender but Made in USA and sound wise great.
