Shaving

In another thread, the topic of shaving came up.

It actually was one of the most unexpected thread diversions I've seen. The contributors to the diversion really outdid themselves. Bravo!

Anyway, I decided to create a thread for it.

When it comes to shaving, I go old-school. I use an old-fashioned single-blade "safety" razor. I love that thing. The little blade dispenser comes with five blades, and only costs $2.76. My facial hair doesn't grow really fast and it's not too coarse, so I can go quite awhile on one blade.

Using one of these is a little like using a Bigsby. You've got to develop a light touch or you'll get undesirable results!

After that shaving diversion, I looked up the model sp8ctre mentioned. Then I watched some videos. I found the demos by the enthusiasts unsettling to say the least. I was frightened. I wonder if that is how us gear heads look to others!

Who knew that facial hair grooming could be so diverse.
LOL and to think until I got these 2 straight razors, I think I may have paid a total of a couple hundred for a lifetime of shaving between ages 16 and 53. Having a beard for most of my adult life, and using one of those barber clippers to cut my own hair keeps my frugal side happy.

My choice to get the 2 blade disposables and the new straight razors I got, gives me that little tool in my arsenal for the times I say Feck it and go for a change of pace just for the heck of it. Oh and who'd a thunk it how my bringing up that detour in the other thread would grow this much interest.

Nice shave shop, Don. Wonder if they do mail order to the US.

I use this:

Home-Product-All.jpg

Hair clipper with 3 different sized combs, plus an adjustable comb, electric razor head, nose/ear hair clipper, "monobrow" clipper... Everything the modern metrosexual needs.... ;)
(I only actually use the razor, hair clipper and adjustable comb - the rest of the bits are still in the bag!)
My kids gave me this as part of my Christmas present last year.
It all sits on a recharging station and takes up almost no room.
And I must confess, the last electric razor i used, a PhiliShave, was crap. This one actually does cut my beard!!!

Razors---WTF is all the deal with Razors these days--- they send them to your door now --- (because getting out to buy them is SOOOO complicated??) BE part of the RAZOR of the MOnth Club--- and get some shaver gel lube in fancy packaging for 8.00 (same crap is for sale at wlamart for 4) --- the commercials make you think they are obviously VERY expensive (razors that is) and you can get electrocuted/tazzed for trying to BUY them at store!

----I am also somewhat offended (regularly) by how STUPID men --mostly-- (because God forbid you insult anything other than a man/father/husband--seriously WATCH commercials--men are made to look like complete ignorant morons who cant pick yogurt--find their own shoes--- or --obviously BUY RAZORS) are made to look.

PEOPLE--disposable razors come in a 15 pac at the Dollar store---- for a DOLLAR-- 1 razor will last a month or more shaving daily---- so --- for 1.00 I am good for a year......life goes on...............next..........rant....shave cream--- WHY? -- use the soap --- lather it in your hands and rub it on your face--- shave--- done--- aftershave? cream? lotion? WHY? (because THEY tell you to) razzor burn wakes your ASS UP--- Suck it up buttercup.....get yer ass to work.......bunch a metrosexual goobers.....

Shave Club for men--- right up there with amway and rainbow vacuum cleaners on the SCAM list........

wow that ran long ---

Unlike Mr eSGEe who rubs his face on the rocks in the creek running past his front door to remove facial fuzz I do use a foaming lube.
I use the cheapo disposable and usually shave every second day.
I'm always in such a hurry even with the disposables I usually cut myself. It's the follow through that gets me, hacking bits of ear or nose off.
After a shave if I'm not dripping blood on the bathroom floor I feel I've failed at manhood.

For the Norwegian & Irish side of me, I use an old German made straight razor with an equally old mug with a badger hair brush. When done Mennen Skin Bracer, just like my old man used before me. Why fix what ain't broke?

I did recently buy an $80 plus Brün super dooper rechargeable job that was horrible! I threw it in the trash!
