Shades?

So, I have kind of sensitive eyes. My eyesight is still excellent but I require sunglasses in even moderately bright situations. I've tried pretty much every brand/type of sunglasses over the years, and I've determined that, at least for me, nothing can beat Persols. They have style, superior optics, and from my experience seem to be made better than any other brand, at least the the ones that I have tried.

Just kind of wondering what the rest of the TTR community is wearing for shades and why? Maybe there's a brand I haven't given fair shake to, and since I like to have a "wardrobe" of sunglasses I am always in the market.

I have been a RayBan user for more years than I care to admit, but I have a fat head and wear them out
(over stretched) and they become loose.

My first pair of Ray-Bans was from when they were still made by Bausch + Lomb and had mineral-glass lenses, and I have been a fan for a long time. I was disappointed when Luxottica switched to poly lenses, but the quality-to-price ratio was great and I still have 5 or 6 pairs of RB's that I love. But between the rising prices (which to me are out of control for a brand that does not use optical glass for their lenses) and their recent overhaul which seems aimed at fashion over quality I think I may be over them. Many of the styles are now made in China and the quality has taken a real hit, and the last pair I got started losing the coating on the lenses from very minor impacts that in the past would not have done any damage.

I have to wear corrective lens, so I get the polarized sunglasses that are designed to fit over my superscription glasses. I like these because they wrap around the prescription glasses blocking out unwanted sun light. CVS and Rightaid sells these. They also work great as stand alone sun glasses.

I have a pair of corrective lenses that I only need occasionally at night for astigmatism. Luckily, my eyesight is still close to "perfect" whatever that means, but when I am tired and it's dark my eyeballs deform and I need the glasses. Never happens during the day, so all my sunglasses are non-prescription, and I have a mix of different color lenses, polarized and non-polarized for different uses.

I have prescription glasses they come with the magnet clip on, I really like these. When I get glasses I try to buy the ones that come with matching clip on. I was going to get lenses that change , but I have heard conflicting reports when you go outside it takes them a bit to change back and vise versa. Also the lenses wont change when you are driving the car so no good. You would still need some type of sunglasses when you drive. So I like the clip on ones.

Worn glasses since I was 10. Need for distance. Even being a charter card carrying member of the Old Farts Club, I can still read without corrective lenses. Like Session, mine are supposed to change with light. Works great outside.... especially if its cold or I'm around water.... think Lake Michigan or the ocean. Then they get dark. When its cold they actually get black as night. But in the car, they never get dark enough. Something about the tinting in the car glass filters out some of the UV which is what must be needed to make them dark. So...... I find myself when driving into the sun either squinting or driving blind. That's exciting.

Whatever is polarized, UV rated, not real particular, and under maybe $40. tops.
Usually buy for fishing so wrap around style that covers each eye socket well.
If they fit my face comfortably and stay there, I'm good.
I should get the over the RX type for my driving glasses.

I have some cheap safety glasses type sunglasses that are really good too.

My problem with my eyes being so sensitive to light is that I am really particular about the optics. I can't live with any distortion or reflection at all, and even the modern Ray-Bans and other "big" brands are a bit of a letdown on this front. I really feel like I need optical glass lenses, and the best I've found (Persol, Randolph Engineering, Tom Ford, Serengetti, Maui Jim) have no discernible distortion. Of the bunch I feel the Persol's have the best design and are arguably the best made (Maui Jim is close but I don't like that the coatings they use emphasize colors in what I feel is a strange way - I like the color balance to be more natural), but I am always looking for something I haven't tried before.

Since you don't need prescription glasses, I would check into some shooting glasses at one of the big outdoor stores.

I'll be honest, even if all things were equal regarding the optics, style is important to me too. As great as the shooting glasses are for their intended purpose I'm not sure I could see myself rocking that style, even with the ones that don't have the yellow lenses.

These are my favorite pair of glasses that I currently have...

Wife has to wear shades all the time. especially stores with fluorescent lights. Too much light & her head hurts real bad. have to keep the lighting at home dim

That's pretty much me. I have to wear them most of the time or I get sore eyes and headaches, so I have a "wardrobe" of sunglasses. I also keep the lights very dim, both at home and in my office.
