SG Neck Dive

My issue with SG neck dive isn't worry about the headstock actually falling.

It's the center of gravity.

Even with enough strap friction to prevent slippage, the balance just feels wrong.
As if the guitar were hanging on a single point rather than suspended between two.
Plus they always want to flop forward because the strap attaches behind the neck.

I could move the strap button to the tip of the horn; I know guys have been doing that for ages.
Still, in the back of my mind lurks the thought that I might someday want to sell the guitar.

I used to have the same flopping-forward problem with Firebirds and my Thunderbird.
Then I realized you can run the strap in front of the flank, Skynyrd style.
Can't really do that with an SG.

I have seen him live twice now and every time it is amazing! I didn't even grow to be a big The Who fan until I saw them live. Hell Roger & Devin put Eric Clapton to shame when I saw him. They came out and pumped the crowd, everyone was pumped, I was 2nd row in front of Devin then Clapton (who I love, my Dad's favorite) came out and put everyone to sleep. I left amazed and disappointed at the same time.
Sorry - who's Devin? New member? One of their tour musicians?

Nope, I'm weird with SG's. I can tolerate deviations from most other body shapes, strats, teles etc. as long as it somewhat resembled the original I'm fine. SG's just look weird if they don't look like... well, a SG. I think Gibson got the body shape and the offset between the upper and the lower horn just right and now everything else just looks off to me. It's a shame as there are several cheap Harley Bentons' SG's" that just look skewed to me. They are perfectly fine guitars otherwise.

The only non Gibson SG's I'd consider are Epiphone and Maybach, they got the shape right. I'm no particular fan of Gibson as a brand but I want the "correct" shape in an SG.

I know what you mean it has to look right to you, Im like that with Vs :) it has to look sharp tuners in line in a row... :) otherwise it looks like xmas tree to me :)

I want that ltd viper some point, first i want strat, than black Jackson V with either with Emg or Seymour dunccens love those pick ups. In short there is always more guitars I want. Before I buy one I have to justify if i deserve it, meaning if I have improved my playing. :)

Im an old school traditionalist with designs: whoever made it first, thats how I view its correctness from there on. That being said the only 3 guitar styles I do like deviations from are the Strat designs, Explorer designs and V designs. Jackson, ESP, Dean all make great Explorer/V variants and as far as the Strat? How much time do you got? Theres literally millions that are great lol

The SG and Les Paul however: im pretty strict in my opinion of. I only like variants that keep it very close to the original aesthetics and design. The ESP Viper is a great looking guitar, not crazy about the weird offset but i wouldnt throw one out lol

im wacky and like wacky shapes :)

what do you think on ESP E-2 Les Paul ? i want them all :) but I prefer ESP logo to E-II..

I'm sensitive to neck dive. I agree most times my picking hand forearm helps keep it in place, but not always and the neck creeps down and to the left and the body rolls forward.

I also play with the neck up at a pretty steep angle, so this may add to it.

Some folks say a wide rough surface strap just bunches up the shirt, the Agile AD-2300 P-90 double cut does that.
I love everything about that guitar but cant get comfortable with it standing which is 90% of the time.
IF I played mostly seated it would be great.

So, I will be selling it.

IF you do like a good, wide comfortable strap, as some guys here are familiar with, check out Well-Hung Guitar Accessories shop on Reverb.

The owner, Brad @TVvoodoo is a member here, and a real swell guy as well.
