SG Facelift

I'm considering this SG as a project. Does anyone know is this a nitrocellulose finish? I wonder how hard it would be to take body down to bare wood that can be stained? The fret board can use a touch up too. I really want a crescent moon SG, but I'm not crazy about the color on this.

I'm getting the SG GAS and I love the crescent moon inlays. I also like the SGJ in satin chocolate. I found a SGJ that doesn't need any work and is $10 cheaper that the crescent. However the owner of the crescent is within 10 miles of my home, so I was thinking maybe he would be interested in any trades? I sent him an email. The beautiful wood grain on the SGJ, not hidden behind a giant bat wing really shows off this girls curves! Damn GAS!

I've had SG gas for a few years now. Bought three different USA ones, but none of them beckoned to me. I'll the right Orion SG sooner or later. Between the two here I prefer the Crescent SG myself.

I have sent the seller an email and I'm waiting to hear back from him. I sent it New Years Eve so I may not get an immediate answer.

I just got off the phone setting up an appointment for tonight after work. He is open for trades and I'm bringing Aggie my Agile 2000 and an Elite Tele, both of which I just never bonded with. I'm gonna try for a straight trade one for one, but I'm willing to part with both for this SG.
 
Hey Wav... Remember the facelift I gave my '02 SG Faded? Was the same color, too. But yeah, like That Bastard Don says, the finish is real thin and no grain filler. 220 grit should strip it real easy.

Even though I too didn't care for the faded worn cherry color, the main reason I refinished it was there was really stupid scrawl marks on the back of the body. One of them spelled out: "I WILL SUCCEED". Another scrawl look like a winkie and testicles... :facepalm::facepalm:
 
Oh yeah... Those ebony boards really contract a lot if they are not properly maintained. If that's the case, you might notice some fret sprouting. Not hard to fix, and you'll probably want to roll those fretboard edges anyways... It'll be a killer playing guitar if you go the extra mile!
