Like you from the age 8 mom left causing a broke ass family. My dad worked hard to support and raise my sister and I but never took the time to help us, my sis dropped out of school and I ended up having to go back for a couple extra years just to graduate. This is not what I want for my kids I want them to accomplish better than I have. Now for the LRT and Home schooling. Man, My school experience was a challenge. I was not the best at paying attention. I loved having friends at school, and my Elementary school was the best school ever for a kid to enjoy learning, sports, gym etc. BUT my first school years were marred by marital issues and fighting and much sadness at my home. HOME schooling if it existed would have majorly sucked except having time with mom. Dad was the jerk here.
Flash forward to Middle school. New school new kids, and new location about 20 minutes north. Needless to say, things improved some, despite me still carrying some lingering growth bumps in the road due to the breakup of parents and getting a new dad. Despite some of the least of objections to my next 12 -15 years with my stepdad till I became a college grad, employed adult and mobile maniac, I had truly gotten life's greatest lesson in or out of school. That was the lesson of a stable mom and dad who did not quarrel but displayed love and teamwork with themselves and with my sis and me.
SO, in the end, no matter if they are home schooled of in public/private school. Patience, love and being there as mom, dad, siblings, grandparents, FAMILY, are some of the most important lessons they will ever learn.
You're a good dad. Your kids are going to be fine.Like you from the age 8 mom left causing a broke ass family. Other than my acoustic.... I have four electrics.... working on building the fifth one, which will be a frankentele... Got two set necks (G400 and Hagstrom Viking) and two bolt on (MIM Strat and a Tele knock off I got cheap and refinished). I like all four and I just let my mood dictate which one I play. They do all four bring something different to the table. Currently I've been enjoying the semi hollow Viking.iblive a P90 Tele thats a great idea to me. Ive got to where i wont even play a set neck guitar anymore. i dont like um no more. oh well. i got 2 or 3 set necks ill just give them to my grandaughter. half of them are already up at her house so we can play.
Going to get on soap box now. Forgive me.What iblive said LRT. I was a good dad to plus being a kind of wildman hahahhajaa. Now im sitting in on Zoom mtgs with the school staff and our School Superentendant hahahahhaha. Unbelievable.
Going to get on soap box now. Forgive me.
The legacy my Dad left me and my brother was how to treat woman. Specifically, our wives. Our Mom was his queen. We watched we learned and when we both got married.....oddly, both 42 years ago.... our respective wives became our queens. Our two sons watched and learned how I was with their mom and well..... the tradition continues. I've made plenty of mistakes. Could have taken a different path thru the work world.... but seeing my boys as men. Wouldn't change a thing.
Similar experience her iB. I’m 1 of 7 kids and our parent raised 7 good citizens. My dad worked for a 3 letter agency at Fort Meade MD. As far back as I can remember dad traveled at least 1 week each month, mostly to So CA, as he was in the space business. At age 20 I moved from the east coast to So CA. When dad traveled out here, I’d go have dinner with him around LAX. A few of his coworkers would go to the strip clubs, but not dad. He had a great saying “why take a ride in a Ford when you have a Cadillac home in the garage”. He was a great father and friend.
Just got done with a 2 hour staff Zoom mtg. I can tell ya in my neck of the woods 80% of parents serveyed want School to open. Im rural lots of both parents working families.
That is similar to when Paul Newman was asked why he never had affairs with any of his co-stars. He said, "Why go out for hamburger, when I can have steak at home?"
