Saw this elsewhere, Name the SG player.

hey Chilli , you know before i knew brand names i was identifying guitar how pointy it was way before i ownd any pointy ones :)
I think every kid who lived through the thrash era onward , initially judged coolness of a guitar by how pointy it was, whether if it was actually a good guitar or not lol. Im guilty of it with the 80s Jackson King Vs, RR Vs, Kelly's and the ESP Vs and Explorers. I actually saw those before ever seeing a Gibson believe it or not, because of MTVs Headbanger's Ball lol

Right on! The first guitar I ever outright fell in love with was an SG and though they'd been around for decades and countless people used them, i never really noticed one until i was about 12 and saw the AC/DC Live At Donnington concert on VHS. I remember the pointy devil horns and this lil dude dressed like a school boy just making it scream and i didnt stop until I got one a few years later by sheer luck lol

Nancy Wilson’s Jaw Dropped When Eddie Van Halen Let Her In On This Secret

What A Night!
In 1979, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson found themselves in the same hotel as another famous set of rock and roll siblings: Eddie and Alex Van Halen. As Nancy tells it in their 2013 memoir Kicking & Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul, and Rock and Roll, she expected the night to be interesting when she and Ann sat there watching Eddie and Alex brawl in between marathon drinking contests and various failed attempts at taking the Wilson sisters to bed that night.

What she didn’t expect was a conversation with Eddie that left her more than a little shocked: he didn’t own an acoustic guitar. Not a single one.
“Eddie Van Halen–at that point one of the greatest living guitar players, when he wasn’t punching his brother in the face–didn’t own a single acoustic guitar. I couldn’t believe it. But he swore it was true.
“I’m going to buy you an acoustic guitar right now,” I announced.
I went and woke up our road manager. He told me that at midnight instrument stores were closed. “Then let’s give him one of mine,” I declared. We went to our gear truck, and I took my favorite Ovation. I walked up to Eddie’s room and handed it to him.
He started crying. “That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me,” Eddie said.”
Thinking that was it, Nancy retreated to her hotel room and went to sleep, only to be awoken by Eddie the next morning at about 7am. Saying “Nancy, Nance, sweet Nancy, sweetest Nancy! I wrote a song for you on my Nancy-Nancy acoustic guitar,” Eddie put the phone down and proceeded to jam an acoustic piece he’d written in Nancy’s honor.

“The song went on for many minutes and was truly amazing. It was more of a suite than a song, but it was beautiful. Eventually, the line went dead–I think Eddie had passed out. I don’t know if he ever played the song again, or even if, when he sobered up, he remembered anything about the night, except that he and Alex didn’t manage to take the Wilsons to bed. But it was the best thing I ever heard Eddie Van Halen play. I only wish I could hear it again.”

OK Speaking of POINTY guitars,

To add to Mike's POINT on them and Metal. MY initialtion came Pre Metal such as Thrash type.
Courtesy of a cool Geeky like fella. Unless you count the likes of Angus, Iommi, Tipton, Townshend, Carlos Santana, Robby Krieger etc on Pointy SG's or Schenker and Randy Rhodes on their V's.
Here is one guy who had come pretty cool guitars.

I have been a big fan of the V guitar since I seen UFO with Rush in the late 70’s, I finally became a proud owner of one in 2017 .
I did try to get a used one in 79-80, but the deal fell through before I could pay the last $250.00 on it.
My next pointy guitar was a 76 Explorer, that I traded for in 81.
Cheers

Rick Nilsen actually owns an original 58 Korina Explorer, one of the rarest and priciest guitars out there

Absolutely love UFO. Strangers In The Night is the best live album ever recorded, hands down

Mike, I have posted a number of times over the years where I saw UFO without Schenker at a small club here outside of Baltimore.
Jason Bonham was playing drums with them then.

A short time later, I saw MSG at the same club. I think it was something like a 300 person capacity type place, So you know we got up close and personal with the bands.

That wouldve been awesome!

"You look a bit confused out there..... its your licensing laws......" lol.

I wasnt familiar with UFO beyond Doctor Doctor.
A while back @gball here mentioned the Strangers in the Night record.
Ya, great live record.
Absolutely! I had never heard much UFO except for Lights Out and Doctor, Doctor either until watching VH1s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and all these bands talked them up. I went and bought Strangers In The Night right after and became a massive fan
