Round #1 Dio v.s. Whitesnake

Which band dominates?

I voted Whitesnake.

Why?

I really like the song, "Here I Go Again."

That's about it!

All my votes will be similarly subjective, one-sided, and potentially shallow.

I may vote for some of these bands simply because I like the name better...or I can play the riff to one of their songs...

I'm not gonna get too deep.

Consider me the "Upset Vote"!

(I mean...just that it may upset the voting....I'm not personally upset. You know what I mean, right?)
 
To me, this whole thing should come down to Whitesnake vs. Def Leppard.

Why? 'Cuz I've played their tunes for gigs.

But, I can't decide between those two.

For starters, I like snakes. I've had them as pets. Plus, I think a white snake would be really cool to have.

On the other hand, I'm really fond of big cats. I also think I would probably have a lot of compassion for a deaf leopard.

So, I'm stumped.

But, I know we're not that far, yet. Good thing.

As a moderator, I am considering shutting down this whole thread out of concern for public safety. Forcing a decision between some of these bands could create a rift in the spacetime continuum and suddenly plunge us all into some sort of dystopian existence.

Then again, it may be cool to roam the countryside looking for food and supplies in a vehicle I've fashioned from two motorcycles and a canoe.

So, play on!

I think it was more a "hair metal" thing... whatever the definition is for that. I would have liked to see Great White, Accept, Priest, Ozzy and Maiden in the mix but then... arguments. Again I didn't make the list, but I knew it would spur discussion. I'll give it 'til suppertime tonight and continue on.
 
Not trying to offend anyone but about why I choose Dio vs Whitesnake. There are certain bands that are more appealing to the ladies and some people just like popular music. Honestly Dio , Holy Diver is a great album.
Heaven and Hell was a great album but I never liked Dio or Whitesnake.

There are a lot of GnR haters mostly people hate Axel. Anyway the strength of Appetite has carried them a long way, it was the right album at the right time. Also being L.A. based got a lot of hate. I just wonder if it’s because of the L. A. lifestyle?

Some other thoughts is Grunge hated L. A.
but L.A. didn’t hate grunge.
The best thing to me is GnR wasn’t grunge and the opposite would have been said by PNW.

I voted Dio as well, but I was torn on it. The cred from previous bands the frontmen were part of, the amazing guitarist/composers both groups had. I saw both in concert at or near peak, Dio was a live experience I'll never forget.

Funny, I have seen the majority of the those bands. Dio, Whitesnake, Quite Riot, Scorpions , Skid Row with Lizzy Hale , Quite Riot with Randy , Y&T , GnR.
I would choose Y&T over Ratt and Dokken but I sort of knew Dokken and Bobby Blotzer before they were famous.
 
Of all the bands on that list Dio is the only one I regularly listen to. Occasionally early Scorpions, the second Skid Row record, and the first two Def Leppard albums.
The rest of them no, and some don't even qualify as a hard rock band IMO.

I think it was because it was something new. You had a dirty rock sound, more in the veins of Aerosmith, than anything close to the glam/hair metal scene. Folks saw this street tough, scuzzy image vs the prettied makeup look and heard a more raw, ugly sound

Used to be called Yesterday and Today, shorted later to simply Y&T. California hard rock band who debuted and were active before the dawn of the hair metal scene, though they joined up with it later on. Lead by Dave Meniketti, who is the lead vocalist and lead guitarist. Think Van Halen without the finger tapping lol

Lol truthfully, Im a fan. Agreed that Axl is a douchebag and now his voice is absolutely shot, but back in the day, especially being like 4-5 when they hit the scene? I thought they were the coolest thing to see on MTV.

Here you had dolled-up buttrock with the likes of Poison and those clones on MTV all the time. Only seeing REAL bands on Headbanger's Ball come Saturday night. So out of the blizzard of Aquanet and Revlon, came these junkies and drunks from seemingly nowhere, screaming about " YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE? YOU IN THE JUNGLE BABY, YOU GONNA DIE!" While looking like they just climbed out of a dumpster lol
