Roger Daltrey

Plasmatics with Wendy O. Williams... At some point did some work with Lemmy, if I remember correctly... Punk and shock rock. Pretty much in the style and school of Lydia Lunch.

So this post may highlight the immense diversity of influences we all have here on TTR. And here comes my major confession upfront: I never really got into either ACDC or Maiden or Kiss. That's not to say I didn't like them (honestly, I don't care for Kiss at all) - I could listen to any of their songs anytime I hear them, but I never sought them out nor have I ever purchased one of their albums.

I grew up on a super wide array of music, including, Johnny Mathis, Burt Bacharach, Elvis - both the King and Costello - The Police, Linda Ronstadt, Miami Sound Machine, Olivia Newton John, Michael Jackson. I still like to listen to any of these whenever I hear them. Getting into guitar pushed me deep down a guitar-centric path from which I would only years later emerge. Nowadays I am hugely influenced by guitarists that most guitarists have rarely heard of like Carl Verheyen, Mike Landau, Christophe Godin and mostly jazz musicians more than anything else anymore, such as Miles Davis (one of my top 3 favorite musicians of all time), Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, Coltrane, and they're all mostly passed on and didn't even play guitar.

The type of music I've had the most creative output with is electronic. There was a period of almost a full decade where I listened to mainly this type of music including guys like Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, µ-Ziq, Autechre, Boards of Canada, etc. Many of you have heard a bit of that I've posted here in the past.

I've been thru an extreme metal phase, an ambient soundscapes phase, an adult-oriented contemporary pop phase, my Nana and Gramp's album collection from the 40s and 50s phase, a world music phase, a booty rap phase, a brief Vaporwave phase, a found sound phase, and I guess I would now have to say I am currently in-between phases at the moment. Looking for an interesting new genre of music to dive into.
Someone will have a meltdown here ( no names mentioned) you announcing not liking Kiss or Maiden….

I only got to see them once in the glory days, unfortunately. Lost interest in them after Destroyer/half of Love Gun.

Saw Maiden so many times, starting with the first couple of US tours with Paul Di'Anno in the band, I couldn't even count them.
I saw KISS in 2000 on their "Farewell Tour"...yeah its been 21 years for that goodbye to wrap up lol Good show, however.

Maiden I saw in 2000 as well, then 2005, 2008 and 2010. All were great shows but 2005 was a lil bizarre as they weren't technically the headliner, Black Sabbath was during the Ozzfest Tour. Still, they performed a full set and kinda stole the show

Not from me. I’m not a hater, but never was into Kiss or Iron Maiden. A couple of years ago, I decided to do a bit of a KISS self-education and binge-listened to all of their first ten albums and a couple of their more recent ones and watched numerous videos.

Of course, this does not qualify me as any sort of KISS expert, but I did start to form some impressions.

Since I was never part of the “KISS Army” I came away with a few unconventional ideas about them. For one thing, and most controversial, I think their best sound was during the unmasked era. I like Bruce Kulick‘s guitar work better than Ace Frehley’s and I think Eric Carr was better than Peter Criss. I realize these ideas are anathema to the KISS faithful, but…hey…there you have it and there you are!

Now, I don’t hate the masked presentation; in a way there is a cool factor to it. It’s just not a big deal to me.
