Rock N Roll Tonight

Ok, so as we move along here, we've been discussing ideas during the songwriting process.

We definitely want to add 2 AC/DC covers to our album. We haven't decided on which ones just yet as we are still working on our original material at present.

However, I also suggested that we do a more modern cover that would compliment both my range and vocal timbre.

I get really deep into these things...I like everything to have an underlying purpose and meaning.

While we have an AC/DC vibe, it's clear that we are not an AC/DC cover band. I enjoy adding the Bon Scott-esque inflections because I think it makes the song more interesting and it's effortless for me.

My thoughts, with respect to a more modern cover, was Airbourne's "Back In The Game."

As Angus has said, Back In Black was a tribute to Bon Scott. My thoughts with "Back In The Game" (when listening to the lyrics) was - if I can do it well enough - it could almost be like a Bon Scott tribute to himself.

Look at the lyrics...

Let's play
It's been a hard road but I'm almost home
As the lights fade to black
Hear the roar of the crowd
Ten thousand loud
It's good to be back
Feel the sting the sweat
On the back of my neck
It's been way too long
Like a ricochet I hit the stage
Lets get it on
I'm back in the game
Breaking hearts again
You better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
I'm back in the game
Kickin' ass again
No stopping me now
It's like I've never been away
So you better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
Oh yeah
I'm built to last I'll never crash
I'm invincible tonight
Feel the energy running over me
Like a bolt from the sky
Go another round in another town
I strike and then I'm gone
I'm a high octane hurricane
Let's get it on
I'm back in the game
Breaking hearts again
You better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
I'm back in the game
Kickin' ass again
No stopping me now
It's like I've never been away
So you better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
Oh yeah
I'm back in the game
Back in the game
Breaking hearts again
You better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
I'm back in the game
Kickin' ass again
No stopping me now
It's like I've never been away
So you better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
Back in the game
Back in the game
Watch out I'm gonna get 'cha
Back in the game
I'm playing to win I'm playing with sin
Back in the game
Don't count me out 'cause I'll knock you out
I'm back in the game

What are your thoughts on this???
Love Airbourne man back in the day would be a cookin song to cover as a modern AC/DCescque tribute those guys have the sound for sure .
I just happened to remember a band called Rhinobucket from when i was younger heres a song from back in 92.

So, I made some changes to the rhythm guitar structure to make it fuller and more interesting. I recorded two primary rhythm guitar tracks which are doubled in real time (ala Randy Rhoads) and panned left 5-% and right 60% respectively. I then recorded two additional rhythm tracks. One strikes the chord and holds it and is panned 70%. The other is a chugging rhythm panned at 55%.

Believe it or not, your ear will perceive even these small variations in panning and it makes the track seem fuller and sonically richer.

The solo was re-recorded and doubled in real time, It is panned 10% left and 20% right.

Here are just thee aforementioned guitar tracks without any bass, drums or vocals.

I also faded the guitars out to add more sonic drama to the spoken phrase "1 - 2 - 3 - 4!"

The only problem right now is the guitar tone is poop. If I roll the gain off, I lose presence and resonance, so I gotta saturate it...but we got a new 50 watt master volume in the works to cover that...

Are you using line out still or micing a cab? Speaker obviously makes a big difference tonally plus allows you to get feedback etc. Keep the gain where it needs to be IMO.
I gotta think line out on any SS amp won't be nearly as thick sounding as micing an amp?
