Reworked and finished the last two amps that I had kept for myself. The first was the 65 Princeton Blackface build. This was the amp that was the straw that broke the
camels back. I had worried the very brass balls off of the monkey trying my best to figure out what was wrong with this build. tore it apart 3 times, rebuilt and had issues. Finally found the new
Hammond OT had a resistance of over 400 ohms between the primary leads (should have been around 70 to 75 ohms). During the last rebuild, I had decided to go with a Rob Robinette Version
similar to the 65 Princeton Reverb, but the reverb circuit is taken out but grids leaks left in. Gives a similar result to the Blackface AA964, but with the added gain of the reverb recovery stage. Then I
also decided to go with Cathode bias, delete the Vibrato. During checking the bias, using the Uncle Doug method, is where I found the primary winding so far off. Results are a most beautiful clean
am heard in along time Pristine cleans (replaced the OT , of course with a MPS version). Bought a used Omni reverb pedal, and DANG what a fine amp. A couple of pics below
