I see where he talks differences for bound vs unbound necks but it does not seem clear to me how or when you cut the ends for bound necks, after notching out the tang.
Looks like he says, or implies that for bound necks you cut to length before installing the fret.
I can see this would be desirable to avoid damaging the binding when filing the fret ends, but i cant see being that precise and not have to file, or coming up short.
When i cut my fret ends flush with my end nippers with the face ground flush, i put the tool tight against the edge of the board.
I found as the metal compresses and distorts a bit before it cuts through, it pulled the face of my nippers hard against the binding and chipped it. They are new and sharp, I dunno.
On this upcoming project I will back of a mm or so.
If I can get the frozen truss rod issue resolved.
