Red Light Cameras

That doesn't address the issue about the camera not proving that the owner was driving, or was that part of the "law needs to be rewritten" conversation? I imagine the car would need to be captured with the driver, but then it gets into the weeds with facial recognition issues to tie the driver to the car in the picture.

Honestly, I still think it's on the car owner regardless of how the capture is used. Either you trusted your car to the wrong person, or your car was stolen.
The law would need to be rewritten to allow for a picture of the driver's face. It has been done this way before and currently still is in many places. In Washington however, as I understand it, it's not allowed. I could be wrong here as I cannot remember nor find the source that I originally read this, but I have some firsthand experience with my wife having received a ticket with a picture of her van running the light. She wasn't driving, not that it mattered, because the picture was taken from the rear of the vehicle and you couldn't see the driver. I was driving.
In the threatening mail she received, there WAS an option to name the driver...but we have the right to remain silent as well

Actually, thinking about this.....what if a truck and trailer made it through the light just a bit late and tripped the camera?

It takes a photo of the back of the vehicle....but usually, that trailer at the back of the vehicle isn't registered to the owner of the tractor pulling it...could be a port district's chassis with a shipping container on it, or any number of logistics companies...and even then, the owner of the tractor that is pulling it, is nearly never the guy actually driving it.

Where does that ticket go?
Who do they mail that to?

I don’t disagree. They are more efficient that 4 ways for sure. Issue is to know who does what when. The few I had to navigate, I actually watched drivers speed up as they entered so someone coming from their right couldn’t merge in front of them. It was like watching Indy Cars or Nascar entering a chicane. They’d try and see how fast they could take it and screw anyone else trying to enter the roundabout. Came close to getting nailed more than once….. and one time the dude was no where near the entry to the roundabout when I entered.
A public education effort of some sort will be needed. Then again, overcoming stupid is rarely successful. Hmmmm.gif

There were traffic circles in NJ a ways back, don't think they were well liked. Cannot recall having encountering one. I remember hearing about them being replaced on radio traffic reporting when I used that.

in Portland we call that Tuesday.
Re: Walmart...
I've been in a Walmart twice. Both sightseeing. First time was because I'd never been in one and the second was to convince myself I was hallucinating the first time.

Sadly, I must report that I was not.

It was a very strange experience.
Meh, I cannot argue with their grocery prices. I usually see examples of our species that are known as "trash" which makes me feel a little better about me.

The chains can be stupid pricey, especially one that plays coupon games with the rules and gotchas. Their pharmacy is excellent, great manager there.

It’s not Americans. It’s people with no experience with a roundabout. We drive through a series of them in the Presidio almost every time we visit the city, and nobody seems to have trouble.

So what was the outcome?

As you point out, the vehicle doesn't get the ticket, the operator does. If the ticketing authority can't identify the operator how ever do they press their claim of an infection?

Oregon at least had someone who had read our state constitution and traffic statutes when these devices were permitted. Way back when there was even a fellow who removed his plates and put on a Gorilla mask to go out and game the system. He got nabbed by a motorcycle cop who just happened to be ...

Ever since Oregon decided on citizen oversight, the police have been protesting by not doing stuff...like traffic. Thus, it's not uncommon to see cars without plates. Our daily paper reports that half of the vehicles registered in the state's largest metro area are expired ... that's about 500,000 cars with expired plates. Cops DGAS.

Well, she's a...feisty one with a disdain for authority to say the least.

She intentionally didn't do anything about it at all. Mind you, I was entirely happy to let her write my name in the form and let me pay the ticket. She's rebellious by nature lol

...Until a few years later she got a little bit curious/nervous about it and called the police station of the town the incident occurred and they had no record of it!

Nothing ever came of it, nothing ever happened.

This is actually the incident that kinda got me thinking about the whole thing back when and started me kinda leaning against the racket that it appears to be...at least as it currently operates, anyway.

it is.
a racket.
i share your utter distain for cities selling their mandate off to ferengi.

Here in Maryland, a red light ticket will only generate a fine, not points against your license, even if you decide to pay it.
