Real Truth of The Matter

Don’t think GM has plans of going 100% EV anytime soon. Already have the next model small block for the Corvette in development stages. While they did tease us with a hybrid Vette, from my readings…. The C9 when it’s introduced will still be gasoline powered.

All technology trickles from the top down. It is inevitable that cars will go all-electric eventually. Can you put a timeframe on it? No, and I think its foolish for governments or manufacturers to try. But as the technology evolves and matures it will get to the entry level.

The performance guys should herald this anyway: Electric is quicker and potentially faster; much more torque and instant power delivery. Porsche is already ruling the Nurburgring with an electric, Lamborghini will be all-electric in this decade, and the others are all following.

Not sure why so many people are so opposed to this. Are they simply luddites, or is it something else?

Not opposed. Just found it interesting that GM was stating 100% EV in the next few years when their other release is about the new small block going into the next generation Corvette. ;)

Oh, I wasn't pointing the finger at you. I've just noticed more generally that there is a segment of the populace that are vehemently opposed to electric, to the point of vitriolic, but they don't seem to have a well-reasoned argument, certain none that goes beyond whataboutism or simple fear of change.

I knew you weren’t. Guessing you’ve caught my posts where I’ve said I’m not anti EV. Just that I still have some questions that the smart people haven’t really addressed yet.

Yeah, exactly, me too. I accept that we will eventually be all-electric, but I also know that there are a lot of things that need to be developed and a lot of questions answered, which is why I don't thing specific timeframes should be mandated.

Yes and no. Human nature being what it is…. If manufactures aren’t given a target date, development just keeps getting put off. So a “drop dead” needs to be set. However…. It’s gotta be a realistic date. I’m not sure that’s being done.

Why do they have to be lithium batteries? Yes, that is the standard right now, but we don't know what the state of the art will be in 5 years. That's how technology works.
Agreed. Was just reading an article saying that sodium ion might be a better way.

The tech is still young, and the processes by which we extract these things aren't exactly good for the environment....at all...
So I agree with you. I think mandated time frames are short sighted and the equivalent to counting our chickens before the eggs hatch. We've got a ways to go still.

Tesla is currently sourcing all of it's lithium from China, btw.

Its not opposed i could care less about electric cars
Why you ask? it simply our choice to embrace the the vehicles we have learned to work on as kids & no matter what happens can maintain, fix them on our own from top to bottom. No outside agency needed to police or tell us what standards to conform to.. guaranteed all my cars are on threshold of running as good as they can from proper maintenance & upgrades for performance & even mpg & safe. I do not need a garage or sticker saying my car is safe(thank you-Antique plates in PA) & conforms cause i fix better than there standards & do not subscribe to burning the same energy i pour into my tank to power electric. that aspect is totally misconstrued on a cost analysis... also.. the ones presenting this all will never give up the yachts..the planes..or anything of gas powered that keeps them isolated from the norm.. its control..all these things everyone concedes to..one day..will haunt

Gary I think you should buy an electric vehicle, then report back to us, what you think after you have owned it a couple of years..

The Government is forcing electric vehicles on us, consumers should be the ones to decide if they want electric or gas or diesel or propane, not the Government. The people should have a choice, the Government is headed towards taking that freedom away from us. And that's just the tip of things to come think about it, there's much more than meets the eye on this topic.

Its even come about with electric vehicle weights , they weigh more than the gas vehicles. They are saying this could pose a problem in vehicle accidents causing more injuries or deaths.

Then there is the environmental zealots , who don't say a thing about the mining of lithium and other minerals which will cause many problems for the environment, Canada has piles of lithium that they want to get on board with to make batteries.

Plus it will take years to get the costs down on electric vehicles, the gas vehicles are much better priced. No matter how you slice the pie what the Governments are doing is taking control of our lives , its not all about the environment, its about making the rich richer. More taxes after more taxes, spending billions of taxpayer dollars on something that will make very little difference to world pollution.

As we sit by and watch more billions of dollars go up in smoke, while we watch more working poor go to the foodbanks, and the poor, Seniors, disabled and as the middle class is becoming slowly whittled down to non existence.

It's basically the hypocrisy of facts with the electric. You guys know what i do for living & to actually help people on daily basis that think there electric car runs on "pollution free" energy is in norm when i ask them. Every tesla we unlock we ask them why our gas powered emergency vehicle is acceptable to save them.. then they crush us with the stupidity that gas power is basically evil..total hypocrisy in its highest form. My thing..let the electric emergency vehicles service their own leave us out of it..

Also, jus a lil inside..my industry is very on top of the future,, its headed 2 ways

1) everybody will be monitored from car, to home camera, to phone to your body with the ability to tweak you how ever is needed

or 2)you will be paying our field of expertise for freedom to not have #1 above
