Real Truth of The Matter

Gary I think you should buy an electric vehicle, then report back to us, what you think after you have owned it a couple of years..
The only people I know with them so far love them.
Ultimately it will become electric or hydrogen or what have you.

The Government is forcing electric vehicles on us, consumers should be the ones to decide if they want electric or gas or diesel or propane, not the Government. The people should have a choice, the Government is headed towards taking that freedom away from us. And that's just the tip of things to come think about it, there's much more than meets the eye on this topic.

Its even come about with electric vehicle weights , they weigh more than the gas vehicles. They are saying this could pose a problem in vehicle accidents causing more injuries or deaths.

Then there is the environmental zealots , who don't say a thing about the mining of lithium and other minerals which will cause many problems for the environment, Canada has piles of lithium that they want to get on board with to make batteries.

Plus it will take years to get the costs down on electric vehicles, the gas vehicles are much better priced. No matter how you slice the pie what the Governments are doing is taking control of our lives , its not all about the environment, its about making the rich richer. More taxes after more taxes, spending billions of taxpayer dollars on something that will make very little difference to world pollution.

As we sit by and watch more billions of dollars go up in smoke, while we watch more working poor go to the foodbanks, and the poor, Seniors, disabled and as the middle class is becoming slowly whittled down to non existence.
I was going to post something to that effect earlier, even had a little story about a friend I had in high school who drove a propane powered Datsun pickup.

I'd have a temper tantrum if the government told me I no longer got to choose whether to get an acoustic guitar or an electric one. Or remove my ability to have both, should I choose to. And then tell me it's because it's better for the environment. Ha!

You still have to cut trees down to make either one.

Yes, that is probably the main issue. Translating to guitars is a good analogy. Cause the conforming comes from 1 particular batch of people imposing their will & not all inclusive..hey..let us all just live !! especially those that actually contribute to society on a regular basis that don't try to force anybody to do anything

Why do they have to be lithium batteries?
^^^^This, this, and this.

Electric vehicles and lithium batteries are not inextricably linked. The EV could be powered by lithium ion, lithium iron phosphate, hydrogen fuel cell, or some yet-to-be-discovered power source.

I don't have one (yet) but I know two families who each have had one for a couple of years and they love them.

All technology trickles from the top down. It is inevitable that cars will go all-electric eventually. Can you put a timeframe on it? No, and I think its foolish for governments or manufacturers to try. But as the technology evolves and matures it will get to the entry level.

The performance guys should herald this anyway: Electric is quicker and potentially faster; much more torque and instant power delivery. Porsche is already ruling the Nurburgring with an electric, Lamborghini will be all-electric in this decade, and the others are all following.

Not sure why so many people are so opposed to this. Are they simply luddites, or is it something else?

I'm not a fan of electrics. I was employed by Tesla. Unbelievable level of unreliability. I prefer to burn fuel....i like the sound of my V8.

The government won't tell you that you cannot buy one type of guitar or another. But, it may ban the harvesting or usage of a particular type of wood due to that species becoming endangered.

Thus, guitar manufacturers will have to search for suitable substitutes or alternate materials.

Don’t know about other woods, but I know ebony has restrictions on how much can be harvested.

It applies to some species of true rosewoods, too. This is one reason you see pau ferro used as a fretboard material. It's a substitute for rosewood.

This doesn't mean it is inferior; it's just a material that hasn't really been used before to this extent. As certain species come under more pressure, builders may have to explore woods that may have been overlooked for usage as instrument materials.

Yeah, but that wasn't the point that I was making lol

Both fossil fuel extraction, processing and use, and lithium extraction and processing are bad for the environment. We've got to either do bad stuff to the planet for our gasoline, or we've got to do bad stuff to the planet for our batteries. Either way we go, we're still "cutting down some trees" so to speak. Like the old saying "Gotta break an egg to make an omelette"

Even the electricity we'll store in those batteries, whichever type they may be, isn't necessarily always environmentally friendly to make, either.

Where we source these things is of importance to me too. I wouldn't think it wise to find ourselves dependent on product from a nation that isn't necessarily a friendly to us...

The author is an idiot. Keeps switching between Bolt and Volt throughout the article.
Bet he was typing on his phone and Siri kept autocorrecting. Gotta be careful with her. You may be trying to type shut and Siri changes the U to an I. Oops. :pound-hand:

My next car will be electric, have no doubt.

However...my current car is a 2015 model year that has only 30,000 miles on it. I frequently go 2 months without ever even seeing it, let along driving it. Last year I put less than 1000 miles on the car, all going on vacation trips.

It will be quite a while before I need to buy a new car.

Your points are good. I get it and I understand. What is frustrating, however, (and I'm NOT accusing you of this), is that most often when I read various articles decrying the environmental impact of battery production - which is real and I don't deny it is a real problem that must be addressed - that negative commentary usually just takes a laissez faire attitude and adopts a business-as-usual approach. The negative commentary doesn't actually contribute to a solution. It's just naysayers in the peanut gallery.

In other words, it comes off as, "Yeah, we know gasoline pollutes and puts CO2 into the atmosphere, but making batteries impacts the environment, too. So, let's keep burning gasoline."

It doesn't help and very much resembles a Tu Quoque fallacy.

Yah, at least 50% of our friends have made the switch and they are universally thrilled with electric cars. I don't know a single person that regrets buying one.

All of my "musical colleagues" are uber-wealthy, and almost all drive Teslas. They have plenty of money and get a new car every 18 months. Kinda hard to compare that to an average mortal human being.

I have one friend i have known since 1974.

I associate very little with people outside of my work...

I say let the market decide and when the technology catches up and the costs become comparable then so be it let the best car win. But many facts about what will happen to the cost of living because of farm equipment and delivery vehicles get overlooked It could be devastating, inflation from “printing” money has been bad but it will get much worse buckle up.
