The scientists were researching if crops could be successfully grown near the Chernobyl Exclusion zones, after the 1986 disaster and subsequent evacuation. This was 4 years in the making and if it's to be believed, the crops were successfully watered from the radioactive streams with "minimal radiation" and "safe to consume".
The bottles were on their way to the UK and profits would've gone towards Chernobyl victims and displaced families. The funny part though, was the booze wasnt seized over safety issues, rather disputes over the customs labels which the Ukraine said were forgeries.
So, if you want a helluva buzz the next time you wanna pound booze and potentially grow your own clone from within your spinal column: try some Atomik Vodka!
