Proco Rat build

Cool build , here's my old war horse! I think it's a pretty early version. Probably needs new Electros + but sounds fine

I've read if one has reverse threads on adjacent screw heads they sound better or sumptin like that, I don't know?

Very nice! Looks like it should be in a gear museum.

Cool. Appears to be one of the first commercial units with the sheet metal enclosure & the L shaped removable top panel. Produced from '79 until the change to the later enclosure type in '83, or so I've read. Cheers

"PRODUCES HAZARDOUS NOISE"
.....P:lol:... :dood:...

Fuk Photobucket, time to load everything I have there onto a flash drive. Are there any other places like photobucket used to be?

So, I've never owned a Rat...
Recently, BYOC started stocking their Mouse kits again. , and today I assembled it together. The BYOC-supplied LM308 transistor is installed. Didn't have time to plug it in, but the "on" light and the clipping LEDs come on. Since I also have a vintage Motorola LM308 (Thanks, Ivan!), I want to install that one and compare between the two transistors. So... Is it as easy as slipping one of the leads into the 8-dip socket one at a time, and follow this datasheet's pin diagram from the TO-99 can-style to the rectangular 8-dip socket?

Hey Ivan you finish that Proco Rat build ??? I thought maybe youd want to send it to me for evaluation hahahahahha. ,)

Be interesting to here the results of the comparison between DIP chip type LM308 & the TO-99 (metal can) type Motorola LM308. From what I've read on stompbox forums, the TO-99 type was only used on the first few prototype ProCo Rat's. People swap out their DIP (dual inline pins) type LM308 for the TO-99 type as a supposed upgrade, though whether there's any noticeable difference I couldn't say.

I've been using it for 3 yrs, it's a permanent fixture on my board. I could, when time allows, possibly throw another together for your evaluation. Cheers

Today, I could only get about 5 minutes of playtime with the Mouse.......... :sneaky:

I can't make a fair assessment after just a very few minutes, but it sounds good right from the start played thru a clean Spiffy XVI amp. The Tone/Filter control reduces the highs by adjusting it clockwise. Plenty amounts of volume boost through a clean amp. Lots of crisp and tight distortion with the distortion control only halfway! We'll see what tomorrow brings...
