Well... I was looking through the Farcebook classifieds, and spied a (i think) 1970s Hondo 2 Les Paul for AUD $100!

It hasn't got any pickups, but the body and neck look ok (from the photos) and it has all the pots, caps, knobs etc... Definitely a mod job in the making!

I'll let you know if I get it.. I'm the 2nd person to ask about it, and the vendor has said that the first guy gets first dibs, otherwise, it's mine.

Here it is.

I'm planning on the full "Black Beauty" look... Gold everything! I'm sure @Goldmember will approve!

Watch this space for updates...

Much potential!!!!!

I'm in two minds... Either the standard 490/498T combo in gold as per Gibson specs, or something a little different... A P90 at the bridge and a Seymour Duncan mini humbucker at the neck, a'la the Robbie Krieger Black Beauty.

I love the P90's punch, and the humbuckers clarity... It would be a good mix of both.

I fear, however, that I may need to do some routing to fit the P90/Mini Hum combo, and possibly some filling so I don't have huge gaps around the pickups.

Unless, of course, I can find some pickup rings that fit the P90 size, and the humbucker routes...

Definitely putting a set of gold Kluson tuners on, and a gold TOM bridge and tailpiece.

I know I have the Gold Epiphones I pulled out of this one boxed up. I also have some gold hardware laying about...

Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! :dood:

Sounds very intriguing! I guess that could be an option also...

That would be more like the original.... Definitely more Black Beauty style!

The Epiphones had good crunch. The bridge had a feedback issue at really high volume levels, but I think it just needs to be wax dipped.

The gold covers are flawless. They were in my Mum's guitar.

As i recall the ohms values were in the 8k/9k range.

Let me know if you get it...

Can you receive small, light birthday gifts without VAT's???

Absolutely. And I'm more than happy to chip in and pay postage or whatever...
A few years back, Wade from the SG site sent me some NOS Russian tubes for my tube amp, and I'm pretty certain that there was no taxes or anything... I'd hazard a guess that they would have weighed around the same...

You let me know if you get it and I will dig up all the gold stuff I have. It's all Epiphone take offs and some of it is brand new...some lightly used, but still serviceable.... :-)
