Couple of things about the video. First, the guy should make at least a cursory attempt to play the same things through each amp. Next, he should at least try to do a clean/crunch/distortion comparo between them. Next, I don't care if one amp doesn't compress, don't put a boost in front of it unless you put it in front of all of them man. And if you are gonna dime an amp to display it's distortion tone don't just hit one note and hang onto it until it feeds back

That being said, in order of preference:

1. Cornell. By a mile. Not even close.
2. Katana. Not a popular choice in this slot but it's distortion tones are much better than anything else I heard in the video.
3. Supro. Thought I'd like it more but maybe it needs to be wound up some.
4. Marshall. That was some of the worst tone I have ever heard come out of a Marshall. Really disappointing considering the cost of that amp, and I have heard people get amazing sounds out of those Astorias, so I know its in there. Maybe same problem as the Supro, maybe homey don't know how to dial it in?

Cornell and Supro tied for first. Then the Katana. The Marshall does not make my ears happy. Reminds me of the Origin when I tried it i the store.

You got yourself a nice amp. Congrats!

Pretty much agree with all of the method analysis above.
For me:
1 Cornell
2 Katana
3 Astoria
4 Supro

I was completely unimpressed with the Supro with P90's. The Astoria was mediocre. I wouldn't buy either after the demo. I thought the Cornell sounded great and I was really impressed by the Katana as I have never really paid any attention to them before.

I had a Katana head and while I did like it and it was cool gear it couldn't come close to my Kemper or Helix
through a power amp and cab. I know the Katana is a much less expensive piece so it's a viable amp if you
are budget conscious...

Supros only function dimed..they are animals wound up...my BM scares me ..that lil mean bugger...personally unless the amp is set to kick drum level..no way is the real characteristic it was designed to do show thru..also never favor any pedal in a demo

That's what I figgered. It sounded like it wasn't breathing yet and needed some volume to open up.

I don't hold any stock in videos example my friend Mark was a MTV star in the 1980'S technically Mark is a monster
I try to tell a story with my notes when we play the same guitar and amp we sound nothing alike that's a good thing.
At the end of the day what ever works for you.

I got the Katana and messed around with it for just a few weeks before loaning it to a friend for what ended up being 2 years. Early on I decided the speaker was useless and replaced it.
Recently got it back from my buddy and decided to learn its nuances, and I've been very pleasantly surprised once figuring out how to dial in a decent amp tone with it. It's turned out to be the best practice amp I have owned, though like you said at that price point you are not going to put any of the higher-end stuff out of a job. It sounds awful at high volumes - strictly for low level practice.

I did wanna introduce the Cornell amps because they are bit different, not that many around, interesting and not crazy price points.

Regarding method, I don't actually wanna see the same stuff played, the same settings on every amp, etc, I wanna see each amp perform at its best, so every amp could be set up differently and inspire different playing - that's all fine for me, I just wanna hear that amp at its best.

Regarding playing one note and holding it, and putting the boost infront of the Supro instead of just dimming it - I totally agree.

It's interesting folks' comments on the Astoria, many of youse didn't like the fuzzy drive its giving out, and we've been through this before with other amps with similar comments; I love that sound, but I seem to be in the minority. I don't always want pure articulation and note clarity, I love a bit of grit and angst which I thought the Astoria did really well. Some of the small watt Supros when dimmed have a similar character, and I really like that too.

All 4 amps are really good amps.
