I'm quite fancying one of these limited edition, made only for Japan LP specials.

They have a nice headstock, binding and other stuff I like. I have a nice cherry SG, so I quite fancy a different colour, but the the LP special does look nice as you see the grain better?

Black or Cherry?

I was just playing my Gladiator version of that...like an hour ago!
I like the wrap-tailpiece.
I’m really kinda partial to tobacco burst, or maybe a walnut, or natural...but that’s just me.
If I had to pick a color on this model, of the two...no hesitation...
That black one is sharp!

Black... :yesway:

Black will compliment your SG's cherry with elegance... and vise versa.

Ha ha... the cherry LP Special does look good!

But, the cherry is 2016, second hand, near perfect condition and will cost me $1600. The black is a 2019, new, and will cost me $1400. Both coming from Japan, so I cannot try them out... :cautious:

One reason I got the Epiphone was to see if I like that style of guitar and was willing to pay Gibson money to get one. They are not cheap, but they have the binding and the proper pearl headstock inlays.

I don't recall what quality issues, if any, there were in 2016. Gibson was reeling from the 2015 debacle. But, I think Gibson has upped it's game this year with the new leadership...for $200 less I'd take the 2019.

or $200 less I'd take the 2019.

It's also cheaper than the 2018 LP junior, and the Japanese model has binding and a nice Gibson pearl inlay (instead of the 2018 juniors silkscreen and 'unusual' Gibson logo, as on my SG). In Korea, there's a double cut 2018 which has binding (and the unusual 'Gibson' logo) for $1600 - and these two come with a case while the Japanese models don't. TBH, I don't think much of the Gibson cases and would prefer to get an aftermarket one which could actually go on a plane and you'd feel safe about it (the brown cases just seem like they'd get smashed to bits on a plane - maybe not so, but...).

Hmmm, I will need to find another route (flying to Japan might be a similar cost to the 30% import tax anyways...):

Thank you very much for sending inquiry.
According to the dealer agreement with Gibson, we are not selling/shipping the all new and outlet Gibson guitars to outside Japan.
We are sorry for not meeting your request this time.
We hope your understanding.

2016 is regarded as a very good year for Gibson. The two that I have (a Les Paul Traditional and a Firebird) are flawless keepers.

That being said I agree and would go for the '19 model.

both are quite fetching.
In this case, if the color in the photo is right, I take the root beer cherry over the very red cherry.

But the black one just sings to me too:

"She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)"

I voted cherry. Personally for me.... not fond of black guitars. My bass is black, but only because the other bass in the store that had my interest in a color in really liked..... had a surface crack in the finish. I realize those things happen sometimes as a guitar ages, just not my idea of a fun time in a brand new one.

Which colour?

I'm from London, dialectally we say "what" instead of "which". o_O

Personally for me.... not fond of black guitars.

Usually, I'd agree, and a LP should have a bit of colour, buuuuuuut, with a nitro guitar and likely a light coating, I'm hoping you can see the wood and it would age well. If I did get one, I'd be tempted to leave it out as a player and not worry too much about the body ageing (I tend to keep the SG in it's case and loved because it looks so nice).

But, I am now of the dilemma: Mesa or LP Special?

Both sir.

Not at once, maybe over a period of time.

Oh, and it turns out that you can get the cherry for a 2019, but it's $200 more expensive; actually, both guitars are gonna be up in price because I'd have to buy them from a second party via ebay or fly to Japan...
