Please help me with my pedalboard...

Most of my gear has arrived, awaiting the power brick and one more pedal (a reverb with modulation pedal). It's only a small pedalboard, 6 pedals.

20190420_135827.jpg

The Warwick Rockboard Duo 2.1 should be ok (just...) for 6 pedals, and the power supply will fit underneath and out of the way. It seems robust and was cheap...

20190420_140326.jpg

I got the mounting plate for the power brick, two longer MXR cables for the Wampler reverb/delay which I'll put in the FX loop, but I'll need to buy another few patch cables...

My provisional chain looks like this:

20190420_140858.jpg

I very nearly got the Xotic SP compressor as it's small and very well featured, but decided that I wanted most of my pedals to be quite simple.

The space is for one of these:

VerboTrem-large.jpg

...because I felt I needed some modulation and a reverb with more options than the Wampler which is really a delay with a plate reverb underneath.

Thus, the compressor into the TS808 - I'm hoping that these will work well together and get some excellent sounds.

Next is the Rat/Tonebender 2 which I'll probably use without being stacked with other ODs.

Next will be the reverb in front of the amp - hear me out on this... The Marshall has an FX loop bypass switch on the footswitch, so I thought it might be nice to have a footswitchable option between my two core sounds (1: the amp with the Wampler reveb/delay and perhaps the amps boost; 2: my pedal chain). This may or may not work out, I'll just have to check the sounds and see...

Lastly, the Looper/drum machine. I'm not opposed to taking this off the board, adding another pedal, and just plugging it in at the end of the chain when I'm using it.

To the far left is the Wampler which'll be in the FX loop, in theory I can take it off the pedalboard and just sit it atop the amp, but, I'm not sure.

Lastly, there was another pedal I quite wanted which I thought would be nice at the end of the chain if I removed the Looper:

You fellas almost all know more than me, so what advice would you give?

Also, simple stuff, like which velcro should go on the board and which on the pedal? Any tips with patch cables, pedal ties, anything else (especially pedal position)?

I think the board is quite nice and flexible with the holes helping to have a loy of patch cable options:

20190420_141555.jpg

&, just a by the way, as it's a new amp and lots of new pedals, I will just be doing this bit by bit.

Last night I was using the Catalinbread Katzenkonig with the amp to understand how they work together - fantastically well is the answer.

Today/tomorrow, my plan is to just play with the LP special, the compressor and the Tubescreamer to get some basic sounds down and start enjoying the amp:

I'm probably the last to understand pedal order, so I am watching. Nice amp...Origin 50?

Origin 50?

Origin 20 because it has some wattage settings which can be used at home (.3w and 3w).

I've never had a compressor before, so I know nothing...thus I watched videos by Wampler and JHS to see where to put the compression, and they both said it can go where you like but they personally prefer it before the OD. So, I stuck it before the TS. Clean amp, turn on the compressor, and it sounds fine, a bit sweeter, some fine note definition; nice. Turn on the TS with/or without the amp boost, and I cannot get any good overdriven sounds... Even with the TS off, the amp boost sounded far too bright with the compressor on (must be something in the TS circuit which affected it - I don't know, can't understand why the boost sounded so different, and any which way I put the tubescreamer it just sounded too compressed with zero dynamics - horrible. Blimey, I knew I should have gotten the Xotic SP where I could have used the blend...

Hmmm, had a shower, thought about it then decided to try again with the tubecreamer before the DOD compressor, and... everything was good. The TS, the compressor and the boost all sounded good. What was evident this way around was how you have to use the guitar volume to control the amp boost in this set up - but that's fine, nice usable sounds with the volume down to 4, and a big lead boost with the volume up high (the volume was not affected in this way when the compression was before the tubescreamer...).

OK, we have some success, part 1 of my board:

20190420_183947.jpg

Guitar to tube screamer into compressor (I have it on really low, 9 O'clock at most). The compressor is quite interesting because it changes how you play the strings, kinda makes you focus more and feel the strings more carefully - or at least, that's my 2 hours of experience.

I will play around with this tonight then tomorrow I'll see where the Rat Killing Tone Bender best fits into the signal path...

So you are boosting the 'clean' channel???????

I would put the Wampler Ethereal on top of the
amplifier and control it with the FX loop footswitch.
Doing that will eliminate 20 ft. of cable from your signal path.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'm also thinking I need another drive pedal to on my board...

So you are boosting the 'clean' channel???????

It's a single channel amp. I was reading through the Marshall forum, and everyone was saying how different these are than DSLs; these Orogins need: 1) The master volume right up to get driven tones, rather than the gain knob (I know that sounds back to front, but it is what it is...); 2) pedals to push the hairy clean into OD/classic distortion territory.

I'd say using the full gain and volume, pushed by a tubescreamer maxed out, the 20w Origin would get nowhere near the driven tones of the 1 watt Randall I had with no pedals and gain on half way...

You got a great set of pedals there! It should be a very nice board!

#1.
Send me the looper--
#2. go to hardware store
#3 get hammer.......
#4. get a sammich so you are good and focused
#5.......go home and beat the CRAP outta them pedals

its a good thing the dog has a protective cone on its heads as this WILL GET MESSY ----

WHy no Wampler decal on the SG???

--was the sammich good?

Im hungry

If you don't want to spend a lot I'd suggest a MojoMojo or a Soul Food. I've also heard great things about the Joyo Ultimate Drive. Some pretty accomplished people use it on YouTube and it's only $29.86 on Amazon!

I love that nitro - no silly stickers on the Gibson!

On the the hand, the Epi is a beater, so lots of silly stickers are fine - it's quite an ugly colour, so hiding as much of it as possible is a good idea. Now, those bastards at Catalinbread did not think at all about the colour sticker they sent me!!!

20190421_112533.jpg

(I know it's a strange place to put it, but the switch works for the time being and the cover is so badly done that it covers the cover in a most ghastly colour clashing way...

Tuner
Wah
Compression
Overdrive
Equalizers
Pitch
Modulation
Level
Echo

I know that makes senes, & I've done similar in the past, but the sounds with this amp and these pedals are not working out that way... :hmmm:

+1 on the MojoMojo Overdrive T.C Electronics. Its a great pedal.

Damn It...now you got me looking at the Katzenkonig!

I've bought/sold a lot of pedals over the last 5 years (like yourself), and have formed some opinions:

1) Pedals always sound great from: MXR and Wampler (my first Catalinbread is in the same class). The cheap and simple script distortion+, for example, is a fantastic pedal (shame it's battery only).

2) I'm always disappointed by the nasty digital sounds of TC pedals. I won't buy another.

3) I like so much about Keely pedals: quality, good prices, innovative, but I've never quite bonded with them - I just bought another, so I hope that changes!

4) EHX were great low cost pedals, but the prices have gone too high.

5) I just don't rate the low cost pedals, even if they have nearly good enough sound then the footswitch breaks or the knobs fall off... Look at the TS808, if you wanna beat somebody to death (let's say for example, purely hypothetically, the wife...), that's the pedal you want in your hand - these little Chinese clones wouldn't work, they'd break and give the wife time to come back at me with one of her machete style kitchen knives! I'd be sliced, diced and spaghetti-fied... (&, that's if she's in a good mood). I'm not sure she's liking the Origin's sweetspot volume level... :cautious:

Never had an MXR pedal believe it or not. I seem to go for other like style pedals.

Wampler have always been good and so has every Keeley I've owned.

This MojoMojo is my first TC pedal and I have heard no negative reviews.

EHX still has some good pedals at reasonable prices.

While there may be some Chinese crap out there Joyo has always worked for me and Mooer is really stepping up their game.
So much in fact that some big names are not only using but also endorsing/designing some Mooer pedals. The specific one I
recently stumbled on is the Mooer Ocean Machine Devin Townsend Signature Pedal.

I never count anything out and I have had bad experiences with supposedly great name brand pedals as well as the low cost alternatives.

Different people work well with different pedals - we seem to have very different hearing frequencies. I swear I can hear a huge difference between the same tele with a maple or rosewood neck, but most of you lot think that's ridiculous...
