Picking Dynamics and sound of pick striking string through amp.

that video also shows how "horrible" unversatile and crappy those "Velvet Brick" Gibson Bill LAwarence pickups are (ewh yuk-- if you have any SEND THEM TO ME!!!!)

This is a big problem in my playing.
I can vary my attack with more finesse but tend to be heavy handed.
I hear the pick contact on the string too often but when trying to focus on a lighter attack the strings just dont ring out.
I have tried varying pick attack angles and more pointed or rounded pick tips.

How do you address this or what drills or methods have you used to improve this aspect of your playing?
I prefer around a 1 mm tortex (the blue ones) pick. lighter ones just seem squishy to me and I have less control.
I typically have a short stick out, unless I am playing full / barre chords.

He taught me how to play.
He taught Joe Bonnamassa how to play.
And you would be amazed at what you can learn from this guy. Although you will probably never play up to his actual level of skill, you will absorb amazing knowledge.

Now don't be rubbing anything off on anybody. That ain't right.

Danny was really serious about guitar playing and teaching. But he was a little quirky otherwise.
He was a pretty nice person.
He used to wear these futuristic shirts that looked like Star Trek or something.
He kept the guitars in a bank vault, and Joey remembered the combination for him. Seriously, a bank vault.

Live, I play like i am being attacked by bees. I never considered this aspect of playing???

I use only red tortoise Fender mediums, for like forever, because they look cool. I tend to use them until you could shave with them.

I point the tip towards my palm and play with the rounded edge. I developed this technique to keep from hitting the middle pickup on my Ibanez DT555 Destroyer and the habit stuck...

I really like how these feel when they get worn down...Fender medium picture here with @Sp8ctre 1987 Squire Stratocaster:

I'll do this to several picks a night...

I guess there are harder ways to earn a living...

I guess as long as it keeps paying the bills....

i ride skateboard goofy foot...wonder how all this right or left stuff works...what if we were told something dif at young age..would we go a dif route? I could bat from both sides of plate but not pitch left handed. Is it a perceived mental thing or 1 side just gifted? what if we were no handed...would we just use anyone without thinking..can't wipe too good left handed tho

Goofy Foot is a great stage name...

At least you don't ride mongo. Wonder what that would be on a guitar..?

Ok,

Since you asked the question, I thought I would post a video clip for you to evaluate. This is just some random noodling, and it showcases my uneducated, Neanderthal technique, but I think you might hear some of the pick noise that you mentioned in your original post...I just never noticed.

Again, no stellar playing, just some drunken ramblings here...
