Photography, wildlife and more

We have a problem over here in Canada, its called the privacy act. You are not legally able to take a picture of or put somewhere in the public eye, unless you have received permission from that person. This is why guys like jethro or other photographers have problems being able to take personal shots.
Oh wow I had no idea. Here in Sweden it's the reverse, as long as it's a public space you can shoot pictures and film people. As long as it's not someone in a vulnerable state.

Here in the US it's much different. You cannot have any expectation of privacy in public spaces. If you want privacy stay in a private place which the general public does not have access. There are cameras everywhere now.

We have cameras over here as well Yarg, but viewing those pictures are only made available to the authorities in case of acts of crime.

The problem here is taht people expect you are posting it to a public space. While you cannot expect privacy walking around in the street, that fact that they think you might post it somewhere raises people's ire. I want no part of that!
I will continue to enjoy your street photography!
I live in the middle of redneck cowboy land...sorta... not as bad as Alberta but still..stabbings downtown.....etc

I shouldn't make it sound all doom and gloom. It isn't really THAT bad but takes someone with bigger nads than me. I don't like confrontation by potential loonies for the sake of a pic. I actually no longer feel really safe leaving a movie theatre downtown at night to go to the vehicle. I worked downtown for 20 years. But it ahs changed. Even drunkards leaving a pub could become an issue and I do not wish to invite any trouble.

What system do you run? 85 f1.8 or f1.4?
I have a Zeiss 85 f1.4 for the Sony full frame. Super good lens. Nice focal length.

Great shot! I love the bokeh on the 85. I shoot mostly on either my Nikon D610 or D7100. Those were all shot with the D7100 so the focal lenght is 130 I believe. Perfect for streetphotography, gives me good distance.

The lens is an old classic Nikon 85mm 1.8D

Nice. On the crop sensor it really brings it in nice. On my Olympus half frame I have a 75 f1.8 so like a 150 f1.8. Really nice lens they make great glass! Cheers

Now I see what you mean, thought at first you had two different lenses. So do you experience any difference with the bokeh and your depth of field when using the 75mm on fullframe versus the Olympus? Only Olympus as a 150mm it must be like f5.6 or higher when it's on fullframe, no?

I love using old full frame lenses on my mirrorless cameras. This is an old Vivitar 28-90 macro zoom from the early 80s on a Pentax K-01 (APS-C).

Vivitar and Tamron make lenses that blow my mind sometimes. Even on their cheap ones it's great quality.

It's fun to play around with lenses that are not traditional. I'm looking into buying a couple of old USSR made Helios lenses. They're super cheap, these bastards have 8-9 aperture blades sometimes even more. That creates a really nice bubble effect in the background blurr/bokeh. Sure I'd have to use an adapter to fit it on my Nikon and it's manual focus, but it's cheap and fun.

This wasn't taken by me, just to show you the effect I'm talking about using a Helios lens.

I only use manual focus. It's more challenging, but also more fun for me that way. I bought the K-01 when it first came out specifically because even though it's mirrorless it has a full depth body and the K mount system so I can use any of the thousands of K mount lenses going back 50 years without an adapter. There are so many good ones out there. I also have a Helios and a couple Mir lenses from the early 80s as well.
Ever played around in Photoshop to create a swirl bokeh effect with a helios? That is the main reason I want to get one lol

Why should I spend 800 bucks on a Petzval 58 if I can get this effect with a cheap Helios and some Photoshop?

No I have 2. The 85f1.4 is full frame for the Sony and the Olympus is a 75 f1.8 for that OM system, which is equal to a 150 f1.8 field of view.
