Peddles or effects unit ?

I have pedals, but they cost a lot for some of the real nice ones...so I also have a Line 6 HX Effects which is a fantastic unit. All the Effects from the Helix without the amp modelling...

I would like to throw this up for consideration. If you had to choose one of these 4 fuzzezzz, which one would it be? One is a multi-effect, 2 are boutique pedals and one is a very well made clone.

Find the Faux Fuzz

I am late to the game again!
I will admit that I liked #1 the best. You haven't heard my home built Ram's Head Big Muff though! And the Blackout Effector's Musket is awesome too!

I have been digging deeper into my Zoom lately. It has some significant advantages over some pedals. One thing, it is much easier to switch Reverb types by assigning them with certain other effects. This is very handy when using distortion because pairing them with a gated reverb saves that big mess that can occur when you use reverb and gain together. This is just one example of combos you can pre-think. Who needs pedal loop switchers anymore!? You can chain these patches and add them to certain "real" pedals. Having a gated reverb and a noise gate in one patch is a great addition to any "real" gain pedal!

I like my Zoom so much, I just bought this

I can run this before my looper and it works fine, maybe add a Fuzz after it, before loop and have more control over the Fuzz while soloing

I started out with a few pedals. Then moved to midi controlled, rack mount effect processors through most of the 90s. Then I picked up a cheapie Zoom 505 to play/practice with...that lead me to ditch the rack gear for a Zoom GFX8. I didn’t use the amp modeling, or the dirt...just the modulation, reverb, delay etc.

Then I got a Yamaha Magicstomp, and eventually decided that I wanted to get back in to pedals.
I sold the Zoom GFX8 to the other guitarist in my band, and he’s still using it. That thing is built like a tank.

The Magicstomp still does my favorite chorus effect that I’ve found to date(amongst other things, from time to time)...so it still resides on my pedal board.

At this juncture, I really like the modularity of a pedalboard.

Yes, this is what I meant in my original post. These multi units come in handy for certain applications and for effects that you only use occasionally or like to toy with, but would not have if you had to invest in a dedicated pedal.

I understand the allure and quality differences, but what could be more modular than 100+ effects and 200 seven-pedal patches in a 16" enclosure, which is both up-gradable and re-programmable?

I still haven’t found any dirt that I really like in one of those. They’ve gotten better through the years, but amp, and pedal dirt(especially fuzz) are still what I like. I also favor analog phase pedals over their digital representations...same with tremolo/vibe, and flange(not that I use them too much). I could ditch my delay, chorus(maybe), and reverb pedals for an “all in one”, but not the others...not right now.

Oh, and digital wah?...not for me...yet.
