Peddles or effects unit ?

I still haven’t found any dirt that I really like in one of those. They’ve gotten better through the years, but amp, and pedal dirt(especially fuzz) are still what I like. I also favor analog phase pedals over their digital representations...same with tremolo/vibe, and flange(not that I use them too much). I could ditch my delay, chorus(maybe), and reverb pedals for an “all in one”, but not the others...not right now.

Oh, and digital wah?...not for me...yet.
Yes, that is where I am at. I am selling my reverbs, but the dirt pedals stay!!

Yeah, my reverb pedal is rarely engaged. Once in a while, I get in a mood, and use it...but not too often. I look at it more from a recording standpoint. Ambient effects are best addressed after a good root sound has been captured. Rarely, are ambient effects an integral part of the root sound of a close mic’d instrument or vocal. (In my opinion)

Edit: Ambient effects are fine for live performance, if done well, or to make the player/singer more comfortable.

In the question of whether to use multi-effects or individual pedals, I think a lot comes down to the intended usage. If the need is basically to be able to add individual effects, like delay, chorus, gain, etc. to your sound, individual pedals are hard to beat due to their simplicity.

However, if you have to achieve drastically different sounds from song to song (or within a song!) processors and modeling really are nice to have, if you have a good one. Some aren’t so great. They do take some setup and work with a computer to get a good sound. But, you can go from a clean Fender amp sound with maybe just a drive pedal to a full-blown Marshal amp sound with layered delay and reverb with a single button push. Now, the debate can be had over how authentic the processor actually sounds. But the point is, they do offer tons of versatility for much less money than the actual amps and pedals would cost.

There again, I do prefer actual amps and pedals, but I’ve gigged with processors. They are nice if you have a lot of wide-ranging sounds you need to get, but don’t have the budget or ability to cart around several amps and effects.

I'm a pedals guy, but having dealt with lugging around a very heavy pedal board and dealing with all the cable connections etc for years I can see the attraction of a compact all-in-one processor

I am mostly playing basement gigs lol

I borrowed Ninja King peddle board and just blown away with the difference in sound to a FX unit.

Just need a decent chorus and delay, loop in the muff and that’s my sound I likes
